there are some people out there that need to learn theory before a hands-on approach is utilized.
This is me, I need to understand and have a conceptual basis for the thing before the physical skills can really stick. If I don't have a theoretical basis, I learn the skill "by rote," I don't understand what I'm doing, and ultimately the knowledge isn't stable. Some time later, I would have forgotten how to do the thing.
