Location: TBA, by popular vote, possibly Dupont Circle or the Zoo?
I was thinking we should have a DC ERE meetup! It could be a lot of fun, it could be potluck and thus cheap, and we could have a nice time, even if it's a little bit chilly!
Would anybody be interested?
Possibly. I'm in central MD/Baltimore area so it's not TOO far but also not conveniently close. I'd probably be more interested in a daytime/lunch affair on a Saturday or Sunday than a Friday night... but don't change plans solely on my account.
OK... Friday evening at the zoo (admission is free IIRC... right?) sounds preferable now, as I have other plans Saturday afternoon. It will most likely be me and my gf. Is anyone else interested?
I just looked into this a little more. My popular vote is definitely for the zoo. But the zoo grounds close at 6 p.m. in the winter months.
Also, I've been told Metro parking is free on Saturdays(?). There are Metro stops near the zoo. Metro fare is something like $2-5 whereas parking at the zoo "costs $16 for the first 3 hours, and $22 for more than 3 hours." And spaces are apparently limited.
So maybe Saturday would be better after all?
I was thinking of heading down to DC this weekend with my GF but apparently the red line metro is not in service. Parking seems to be expensive in the city so I'm not sure I can make it down there until they're done working on the metro. But again, don't wait for me.
Bumping this thread up. I'm still interested in a meetup. Just to throw some dates out there, I'm unavailable the first weekend of March but free the remaining weekends as far as I know.
Let's make it Saturday, March 9 at noon in the atrium of the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum. Please let me know if you can make it. Just looking to meet people in person who are also interested in ERE.
Otherwise known as ye olde original Patent Office. Great suggestion.
I have put it in my calendar, which gives me a better than even chance of making it.
I just discovered this website a week or two ago, but as luck would have it I live a few blocks from the portrait gallery! My wife and I will be there March 9th at noon in the Portrait Gallery Atrium (great location choice, by the way!)
I've been planning extreme early retirement for years and am about two and a half years away from my goal, so I'm looking forward to hear what others have to say.
Thanks to Detente for arranging it.
