New Orleans, Gulf Coast or Southeastern United States

Is anyone in the New Orleans metro area, the Gulf Coast or the Southeastern United States? I assumed I was the only one in New Orleans but I realized I've never asked. It'd be cool to do some IRL meetups either socially distanced or once the pandemic ends.

If anyone is in Western Louisiana or Eastern Texas (looking at you @CajunQueen) stay safe in the impending hurricane. It looks like shit is about to get fucked up over there.

Reppin' H-Town. Stay safe, J+G. Eventual IRL meetups would be cool.

The storm avoided us completely. No even an ounce of rain.

I would be annoyed with no rain but considering people had to deal with twenty-foot storm surges, I'll take what I can get.

Thinkin' of y'all again. This one looks a little worse for New Orleans, I'll let y'all know if I float away.

Mom (Alabama) doesn't seem to be worried. Thinks it'll hit Pass Christian as a Cat 1 and she'll just get rain. That's a nice little town to visit if you're ever down there BTW, there and Bay St. Louis. They've lived through a lot worse than this.

Hurricane Laura's approach was much scarier and from friends who have family in Lake Charles, its still a mess there. Not enough news coverage, but that's not surprising. Most of the news I am getting about the impact for the Lake Charles area is from the Cajun Navy--good name to know if (when) there is another Katrina. Hope Sally makes landfall as a Cat 2. If so, rainfall will be the major factor for anyone living in the bowl of metro NOLA. Not worth bugging out for a Cat 2.

J&G have you checked out The Salvage Store in Harahan? Great place for discount groceries and the thrift store across the street is not bad either.

Path of travel has shifted east and now it looks like Sally will go over... Mom's house.

Sally isn't too strong as hurricanes go but is moving ridiculously slowly (2 mph), so will dump a lot of rain. NWS has her getting 20+ inches. [Edit: Of rain. Unless something's going on with one of her neighbors she hasn't told me about.] She's not in a flood zone but heavy rains can do things such as uproot trees.

Unemployable, how is your mom? My friends in Baldwin County, AL are on day 5 without power but otherwise unscathed.

She got her power back within 24 hours. She had a fair amount of debris in her yard, but it looks to be all cleaned up.

So like, did y'all get vaccinated yet? I've heard tale that Texas has some wide-open spaces, outside and 6 feet apart...

Not yet. Still waiting on mine. Probably not until Spring 2021 according to official government websites.

You can sign up for the Harris county waitlist. https://publichealth.harriscountytx.gov ... 19-Vaccine

I know people who have signed up and within a week get an appointment, no questions asked. Not sure if that’s worth the five hour drive or not to you, J+G. We can high five from a distance! I haven’t gotten the shot yet, but I’ve got these sweet, hard-earned antibodies protecting me... from catching covid again...

Gulf Coast Texas... Based on waistlines and cost of pickup trucks, there aren't many ERE followers around the Gulf Coast :(
