Jacob, you often ask questions on Twitter, but I'm a bit clueless on how to reply to them as you're probably not following me.
What's the best way to react?
I signed up on twitter once. Was tempted to do so by the ERE blog.
I didn't get it then, I don't get it now.
"What are you doing?" it asks you. What do you mean "What am I doing"? What I am doing is on the computer, trying out twitter, trying to see if it sends messages, craps, or serves lunch!!
What does it mean that I follow you? Follow you where?
I see on TV (CNN) where comments are rolling a hundred miles an hour at the bottom of the screen. Are they "following" CNN, or is CNN following them? Does CNN ask them "What are you doing?" or do they already know?
@Marius
You know more than I do!!!!!
ps--been several months ago, now lost my name and password where I signed up for twitter.
OH YES: THWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTT!!!!!

You can tweet whatever you want. The gimmick is that it has to fit within 140 characters.
Think of it as a slow public chat room.
To follow someone means whatever they tweet appears in your timeline (you see it).
If someone follows you, they see whatever you tweet.
You don't need to follow or be followed to chat with people. It just makes it easy to miss if they're not on your timeline.
I could appear in CNN's stream simply be tweeting
@CNN hello world, I'm on TV.
CNN isn't necessarily following them, rather it's tracking anyone mentioning @CNN (that's my guess).
For me it's an easy way to ask 800 people a stupid question---this would be logistically difficult (and highly annoying) if done by email; or tell them that I just wrote a blog post.
I generally follow people I've talked to and a lot of bloggers so I can see what they're writing about.
It's also a tremendously effective way to waste time.
