I've been listening to the new Tool (I love odd meter and electric guitars, haha). Bach, Vivaldi, and Hayden are always cool (not sure if they'd show up on spotify, don't have it). Andy Timmons' Theme From a Perfect World has some cool stuff (instrumental) as does Resolution, but the latter is a lot more "hard rock". Can't help much with the singer/songwriter genre. Bob Dylan's kid (Jacob I think) is pretty good for that sort of stuff.

Based on what you like, I'd recommend:

Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Iron and Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
Dolly Parton - Jolene
Mountain Goats - Tallahassee
Gotye - Making Mirrors
Cold War Kids - Robbers & Cowards
Eleanor Friedberger - Last Summer

In terms of my favorite of all time, I always recommend Janelle Monáe's The ArchAndroid. Such an amazing album.
