I have seen that some people seem to have graphs of various types and facts and figures for dates.
Currently, I'm tracking expenditure etc. manually by occasionally creating and Excel spreadsheet.
I think UK banks do not allow the electronic querying of account details by this kind of software
but various export files can be created...
Can anyone recommend some good software for this purpose?

Mint is good for putting the information from various accounts in one place and providing a summary, assuming there isn't a problem with connecting as your say.
To calculate more detailed numbers I'm using a Google spreadsheet that Akratic shared way back on this thread: viewtopic.php?t=279. Unfortunately it looks like the link is broken now.
