Oct 2016 - 17.5%

I'm super excited for the % to become tiny once I get any "real" job post-school this year!~~~ 8-)

I just broke 10%. I'm at 9.875%. That feels good.

To put that into perspective in March 2015 we were at 21.5% & then by December 2015 we were at 15%. It won't keep moving like that though. I have myself achieving FIRE in 2020 with a WR of 5.63 %

6%

All I can think about is how to drop my spending further.

December, 2016 - 4%

I plan to update my journal soon. I first crossed 4% last month, but then I paid property taxes/insurance and went back over. This time feels more solid, since all my known bills are paid and I have rent coming in shortly. I used to think this moment would be like a birth, but now it feels more fluid and arbitrary.

January 2016 SWR Milestones

Current spending - 9.48% (10.5 X annual expenses)
Barebone FI - 6.22% (16X annual expenses)

Things are moving in the right direction!

Again, bittersweet that I've predicted 6% three times now! The misclick this time comes from an increase in spending. I moved in w/ the GF after 2 years in the van. So I have increased my spending by an apparent amount via mostly rent. In the long run, if we consider finances to be joined, it's saving money, I suppose :/ Just need to convince the GF to share the van with me while she lives an otherwise normal life? Get her own van?

Of course ignoring the GF and any future spendings for starting a family, I could be right around 4% WR (also assuming ACA). I've also got a few tricks up my sleeve I'm hiding from my spreadsheets too..

Update:

Update:
End of year numbers:
2010: 16%
2011: 11%
2012: 8%
2013: 6%
2014: 4%
2015: 6% (Higher because of increased spending on Van and house improvements)
2016: 4%

Current:
At rolling 12 month actual spending: 3.2%
At projected forward spending ($15k/yr): 2.7%

My spending is going down to about $750 per month, so my year end 2017 number may be around 2.5%

My trailing-12-month spending rate divided by current net worth is:

4.44%

Not 100% sure what my ongoing WR would be after retiring due to two factors:
- In the last year I had quite a few of the "large but infrequent" expenses all hit in the same year, and
- Uncertainty over what my health insurance+care costs will be in retirement (which are currently mostly covered by an employer, so probably not accurately reflected in my "WR" calculation.)

I feel that I am so close to being comfortable enough to pull the ripcord on my parachute...

I didn't read the whole thread so I dunno the "ground rules" and so will explain where my numbers come from.

I look at my total anticipated withdrawals for two time periods, retirement to age 70 and retirement to age 80. Then I take an average and compare it to my current total financial assets. Assuming I retire immediately, I've recently dipped below 3% for retirement to age 70 and 2% for retirement to 80. Last year's expenses represent 3.6%, but that doesn't account for any offset from external sources (SS and such).

Hi all, first post here :). Not enough to dedicate to a journal, but wanted to share past/present/future.

Year end / Age / SWR / Comments
2005: 21 - ∞% SWR - Career start
2008: 24 - 100% SWR - Moved to a large company, with accelerated income (yay)... but bought a house (boo). Thought was in terms of '12 months of expenses in emergency fund' i.e. Current Ratio=1.
2013: 29 - 120% SWR - Moved to a larger house (boo). Kept old house (yay). Living expenses remain broadly similar to that of studentdom (yay).
2014: 30 - 49% SWR - Started thinking in terms of 'rental properties until retirement'.
2015: 31 - 18% SWR - Read Rich Dad Poor Dad, switched gears. Bought two properties.
2016: 32 - 14% SWR - Read ERE in Nov, installed jet engine. 6 months away from hitting 12%; Initial goal as meets P2P lending (11-13%) and specialist rental property income (11-15%).
2017 Q1: 33 - 11% SWR - Hit the initial goal of 11% SWR (50% actively managed direct property portfolio, 50% passive FTSE/similar).
2017 June: 33 - <10% SWR - Single figures!
2017 EOY: 34 - 8.7% SWR - Aiming for a FIRE-ish in 2018-2019
2018 EOY: 35 - 7.2% SWR - Baby arriving Jan 2019, so taking 2019 off to focus on family (and gather data as "test FIRE").

Projected:
2021: 4% SWR - From continued investing, not including further expense reduction. Continue to build passive position, and eventually sell off some/all the property portfolio.
2024: 3% SWR

The question is - At what point do I quit work and "do something else"? :-)

2024: 3% SWR is also my goal. :-)
April 2017: 5.8% WR of last 12 months
