In The Market?

Post by Nomad »

I'm curious what percentage of peoples investments - as opposed to primary residence are currently invested in the stock market?

Personally, I'm about 75% in stock funds, 10% gold and 15% bonds.

100% cash still. Aware I should change this, but I’m not there yet

I'm not sure at the moment. Throughout 2020 I've been in the 45-60% range when I've checked, so probably somewhere in there.

79% stocks, 14% cash, 7% real estate (not primary)

Will likely sell off 3-5% of stocks into cash given the recent surge as I think there will be better opportunities to buy lower in the next 6-9 months.

Interesting that we're all over the place.

13% cash, 12% residence, 19% bonds, 19% real estate, 36% stocks
(I'm not trading based on asset allocation. Until I did this little exercise, I had no idea what mine was.)

@jacob et all, when you say real estate, do you mean publicly traded REITs, or properties you own/rent directly? My stocks allocation includes ~8% (of total assets) of individual REITs.

12% cash, 88% public equity on just examining my account. Don't own a house.

Bought significant amounts of VTI a little
before and near recent bottom..that portion of portfolio is up 34%.

@Nomad

Index funds and some individual stocks from employment days and some remnants of unfortunate purchases being phased out.

Also contemplating a VC fund started by Alma Mater but not sure how I feel about someone else managing my money....I guess Berkshire investment is trusting Uncle Warren & Charlie's judgement (and soon to be one or both Todds) but VC investment would be a totally different kettle of fish as far as type of businesses they will invest in...also access to my money as an when I like.

Ah, should have clarified that my “stocks” is really public equities - i.e includes some REITs, ETFs, and mutual funds. Also includes taxable and (traditional) retirement accounts. The real estate is a rental property.

Curious to those of you holding bonds - what type of bonds? Investment/non-investment grade corporates? Or T-bills? Do you just hold for the (very low?) coupon or trade in/out on valuation?

The credit markets look better than equity markets in certain sectors but I’ve never actually invested in them.
