Romania is a beautifull and quite stable country (altough warm in summer). I don't know for how much you could rent out your 60k flat, but I seriously considered moving there. Now I'm still thinking about it sometimes.

We've been in Romania for a month now and absolutely love the place. I could see living here spring, summer, early-fall and then heading south for the winter. If you are interested in cities, Bucharest and especially Cluj-Napoca are great for culture. The later is a university town with all the energy and vibrancy. Brasov and Sibiu would be perfect towns for those who want some land to grow things. It is so green here it hurts the eyes and the soil in Transylvania is among the most fertile in Europe. People are friendly. Public transit is excellent. Groceries are inexpensive and the quality is quite good. I got a sim card and a month of service with 70gb of data for $9.50. This morning I shared an olympic pool with three other lap swimmers and paid the drop in fee of $4.30. A monthly membership would lower the price significantly. Our 1br apartment with a patio in Cluj costs $25.50 a day.

By default I am against buying real estate, especially in a country other than your own. Come and rent. See what you like about the place and see if there is anything you hate. Rent a few places on Airbnb and see which neighborhoods or areas you like. If you find a place you love and have been there long enough to know the negatives then go for it and buy.

As @ego said I would be averse to owning property in another country.

I thought about this and my solution would be to buy a flat/apartment in the UK and rent this out when I was going on a trip.
Then use the money from that to hire/rent properties for my travels via AirBnB or similar.
