IPIP NEO, ERE/FIRE vs conscientiousness

Take the IPIP NEO personality test...
I'm familiar with Big5/OCEAN and this seems to be a free test project. I did find several different versions of it, so which one are you talking about? In principle, they should all produce similar results, but for the sake of comparison, could you provide a link?

I'm particularly interested in people's results because I want to directly verify that conscientiousness correlates with FIRE. We already know that ISTJ/INTJ/INTP correlates with both FIRE and conscientiousness respectively thus establishing the transitive property at least as far as correlation goes(*). But lets check the direct one ... and see if there are other ones too.

(*) If you now say latent variables, I say blablabla

I took the short one here.. http://www.personal.psu.edu/~j5j/IPIP/

There are sub-scores for sub-traits. I found my sub-results mostly accurate, but I usually score higher overall on Openness; emotionality is weighted heavy.

EXTRAVERSION 19
..Friendliness 7
..Gregariousness 8
..Assertiveness 63
..Activity Level 49
..Excitement-Seeking 10
..Cheerfulness 46

AGREEABLENESS 3
..Trust 9
..Morality 19
..Altruism 1
..Cooperation 54
..Modesty 35
..Sympathy 6

CONSCIENTIOUSNESS 36
..Self-Efficacy 67
..Orderliness 33
..Dutifulness 1
..Achievement-Striving 26
..Self-Discipline 36
..Cautiousness 87

NEUROTICISM 1
..Anxiety 2
..Anger 1
..Depression 9
..Self-Consciousness 48
..Immoderation 6
..Vulnerability 6

OPENNESS 56
..Imagination 72
..Artistic Interests 22
..Emotionality 1
..Adventurousness 93
..Intellect 87
..Liberalism 79

I am a cautious adventurer.. and I just realized I shouldn't be in the data pool anyway given that I am far from FIRE.

I've taken three different versions and I get the same scores on every one, so I don't think it matters which version you take. I'd say a high score in conscientiousness is important. A high score in most components of Openness may also be important.

XNTP me -highly open and not highly conscientious and not FI. Luckily, I am not highly neurotic either, or I would likely feel like the fat girl at the gym. I just keep hoping some of it is going to rub off on me...

I ditched some point from conscienciousness, and put them on luck at character creation. It worked for me, even if i had to skip on some Nice perks, it allowed me to reach fi with a s-rank time.

I'm also wondering about that artsy/poetry angle of the test. I suspect it's a case of failure to detect, so a type 2 error.

Once upon a time, a group of scientists that included me went to a conference that left a free afternoon for visiting The Mall, a row of free museums in Washington DC. The rest of the group practically had to pry me away from the National Air and Space Museum after spending three hours looking at the fine lines of various flying engines. Then we went across the street to the National Gallery of Art in which I lasted about 15 minutes before I escaped and spent the next two hours browsing the sanctuary of a nearby bookstore while the rest of them finished up.

This leaves the question ... is the test strictly asking for one's appreciation of dadaism, romanticism ... or does it leave room for appreciating the lines of a Spitfire or the Saturn V rocket?

Same with poetry ... I don't get poetry and I think most poetry is an exercise in obfuscation, like some secret code language that I never bothered to learn... but I do appreciate beautiful code, which I can read. Where does that leave me?

This, in a nutshell, is why internet/computer tests are somewhat dubious if you, as the test-taker, don't know the intention of the test-maker.

Add: Other thing is that this test gives you the percentile of your age, gender, and country association. This is useful because now you know if you're an outlier or whether you're just like everybody else. I dunno if those numbers are contingent on the entire population or the sample population of those who search for and take OCEAN tests on the interwebs.

This always gets me as at times I really want to ask, what did you mean with this question rather than make an assumption to answer it and probably leads to some of my answers ending up in the middle rather than what it would have been if I knew exactly what was meant.

Relatively low conscientiousness, but then again, I did sacrifice ER in order to do some fun things meanwhile (semi-ER). Agree that Openness is probably important, at least for the 35% of us or so that follow the innovators...

Given the super low extraversion and agreeableness scores, I'm guessing they found some non-internet people to normalize off of. That, or maybe everyone here is just extra difficult.

@Jacob
The correlations between MBTI and the IPIP-NEO has already been established as far as I recall. I believe the Wiki page on MBTI lists the correlations based on a somewhat recent study.

The IPIP test you're taken should be normalized against the other people living in your region of the world. Agreeableness doesn't mean hostility, it means that you are more concerned with the truth than with other people's feelings. Low agreeableness is more like getting shit done, even if it sucks for everyone.

As expected. Although I "fear" that my very high level with cautiousness could lead to aim for a very low SWR. ...but I am aware of that and therefore there is a possibility to adopt/change that.

Hmm something went wrong... got 1's in 8 subcategories across 4 main categories... inherent issue with self-reporting? I wonder how would self-reported result compare with average of say 3 closest people (or just SO) taking the test from one's perspective?

These studies have a plethora of issues with them. Every bit of data collection does. Recency bias is a rather big one when it comes to self-assessment.
Getting people who know you to take the test for you is much better for a lot of things, except they can only report on what they see, which is also filtered.

Then you could scale up the number of people who have to take the test for you, so you create an ensemble of weak learners, but then you're really just gauging what you look like to others in the aggregate, which is not who you are on 'the inside'.
