Which Brands & Sources of Rice Have the Least Arsenic?

Post by Michael_00005 »

For those out there eating rice, this short clip is worth watching so you know what brands to avoid. And if you type "rice" into the search box you will find Dr. G did several talks on this subject. Dr. Greger, may very well have more logged hours in nutritional research than anyone living on the planet... excellent resource for all health related issues.

If you soak rice overnight before using it it will remove most of the arsenic.

I don't have a good answer for the rice question. According to Consumer Reports, most of the arsenic is in the bran, so white rice has less than brown, but I don't eat white rice. They also say that rice from California is better than rice from other areas of the country.

Since you are a fan of Dr. Greger, you'll find his video today interesting.

Turmeric with pepper does a good job protecting against the antioxidant damage of arsenic exposure. I get my Turmeric from Mountain Rose Herbs.

According to this we should try to get from Asia, although I'm sure there are bad sources there too. Arsenic occurs in soils naturally and so it's best to try to counter it anyway. If you eat apples, you are ingesting arsenic (organic or not) because they contain it naturally.

What size do you buy? How often do you use and how long does your supply last?

In early June I ordered two pounds and just finished it. I put a heaping spoonful (maybe 2-3 teaspoons) in my tea infuser kettle which makes two liters of tea. I drink about five liters of this tea per day, maybe more if it is hot or if I did an especially hard workout in the morning. I also put fresh turmeric in my morning green smoothie.
