I think the trick is to pay attention to what food makes you fart. Sometimes it can take a long time to make the connections on what food makes you fart.
Sometimes foods suddenly make you fart after years of no problems. For example raisins. Never really noticed a problem with them for the first 25-30 years of my life. Now they reliably make me fart within a few hours of consuming them (so that means watching out for raisin bran cereal or raisin cookies and so on..)
Beans don't necessarily make you fart if you can soak them or cook them in certain ways perhaps. Just gotta experiment, try different varieties of beans under different conditions?
Maintaining a food log + fart journal = win/win.
