Kettlebell technique

Post by JLamb »

In Jacob's post about "The two year fitness program" found here: http://earlyretirementextreme.com/the-t ... ogram.html

I see that kettlebells seem to be recommended (clean and press). Since I'm new to kettlebells, I'm wondering if I should be bringing the kettlebell to a stop at the bottom, or should I be using a swing between my legs. I've looked at videos on you tube, but it looks like both techniques are used. Is one better than the other? Is one preferred, or doesn't it matter? Since I am new to this, any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Onnit is good at providing proper technique. Here is a good video from them:

The bell casts between your legs on all ballistics, including the clean.

Look for a group kettlebell class run by a strong first, dragon door or ikff certified instructor. You can pick up the basics in a few classes.

Understanding how to use the hips correctly is very difficult to learn from video, in my experience. The issue is further confused by people online treating the kettlebell as a dumbbell, which is where you see things like the purely vertical clean.
