We know the vaccines aren't 100% effective on the individual level, so why would being vaccinated be grounds to exempt from testing and quarantine?

@Ego the study is https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101 ... 1.full.pdf and reports antibody concentration for all vaccinated groups (including high BMI) much higher than in convalescent sera.

Yes, because many who become infected with Covid have no need to produce antibodies. T-cells are the superstars of Covid immunity.
https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3563/rr-6

Oxford Immunotec has a test that measures T-cell response and can accurately predict those who will not fare well if infected with Covid.
http://www.oxfordimmunotec.com/north-am ... echnology/

It would be logical to determine who are actually at risk and only vaccinate them, but we've already bought the vaccines so...

Human females have much better T cell response than human males in response to viruses inclusive of Covid 19. Statistically, the metabolic disorder associated with being male is more of a risk for both death and lung damage than the metabolic disorder associated with being obese.
Therefore, it would be illogical to preference unvaccinated thin old men over obese females of same or younger age in the realm of travel restrictions.

It’s not rational to make a religion of the concept of agency and its applications. Reality is highly inclusive of that which we can’t well control.

Astounding data. History will not judge us well. Overindulgent Boomers eating their grandchildren.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Pediatric Mental Health, A study of private healthcare claims
PDF: https://s3.amazonaws.com/media2.fairhea ... 0Paper.pdf
Overall Mental Health
  • In March and April 2020, mental health claim lines for individuals aged 13-18, as a percentage of
all medical claim lines, approximately doubled over the same months in the previous year. All
medical claim lines (including mental health claim lines), however, decreased by approximately
half. That pattern of increased mental health claim lines and decreased medical claim lines
continued through November 2020, though to a lesser extent.
  • A similar pattern was seen for individuals aged 19-22, though the changes were smaller. In
general, the age group 19-22 had mental health trends similar to but less pronounced than the
    age group 13-18.
Intentional Self-Harm
  • Claim lines for intentional self-harm as a percentage of all medical claim lines in the 13-18 age
group increased 90.71 percent in March 2020 compared to March 2019. The increase was even
larger when comparing April 2020 to April 2019, nearly doubling (99.83 percent).
  • Comparing August 2019 to August 2020 in the Northeast, for the age group 13-18, there was a
333.93 percent increase in intentional self-harm claim lines as a percentage of all medical claim
lines, a rate higher than that in any other region in any month studied for that age group.
Overdoses and Substance Use Disorders
  • For the age group 13-18, claim lines for overdoses increased 94.91 percent as a percentage of all
medical claim lines in March 2020 and 119.31 percent in April 2020 over the same months the
year before. Claim lines for substance use disorders also increased as a percentage of all
medical claim lines in March (64.64 percent) and April (62.69 percent) 2020 as compared to their
    corresponding months in 2019.
Mental Health Diagnoses
  • For the age group 6-12, from spring to November 2020, claim lines for obsessive-compulsive
disorder and tic disorders increased as a percentage of all medical claim lines from their levels in
    the corresponding months of 2019.
  • For the age group 13-18, in April 2020, claim lines for generalized anxiety disorder increased 93.6
percent as a percentage of all medical claim lines over April 2019, while major depressive
disorder claim lines increased 83.9 percent and adjustment disorder claim lines 89.7 percent.

I expect it means it was indulgent of old people not to just roll over and die.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base_rate_fallacy

A 100-300% increase of a small number can be << a 1-3% increase of a large number.

Diseases of despair (for all ages) cost ~0.1yrs of life expectancy.
Endemic COVID (for all ages) costs ~1.0yrs of life expectancy.

Both tragic but an order of magnitude in difference.

What are the comorbidities? What causes the most common comorbidities?

Men over 70 are the group most likely to die of Covid and they are also the group most likely to commit suicide.

I wonder whether men who undergo feminizing treatment for prostate cancer are less likely to die from Covid or suicide?

@Ego - New study whose results are along the lines of what you have been saying.

"After the second vaccination, 31.3 % of the elderly [people over 80 years old] had no detectable neutralizing antibodies in contrast to the younger group, in which only 2.2% had no detectable neutralizing antibodies."

Not a joke.

Krispy Kreme will you give you a free doughnut every day this year — if you've been vaccinated
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/krispy-kre ... tion-card/

And it's not just a one-time offer. Vaccinated individuals can go back every single day and continue getting free doughnuts through all of 2021.

A number of companies, including Tyson, Target, Aldi, Trader Joe's and McDonald's are offering similar policies.

Very well said.. especially after observing the effect of 2020 on myself as well as my friends/people I know.

That is why I don't want to live in a world where Skynet makes the decisions....just because some variable can be measured doesn't mean that it is more relevant than other variables that are harder to quantify.

It is like Jack Welch obsessing over quantifying and measuring everything at GE to improve efficiency...we know how that worked out.

Similarly the obsession with cultures/people who live long lives...without really asking how richly they lived.

As I say...there is Covid of the lungs (reflected in all the stats ) and then there is Covid of the soul....the latter is harder to quantify but will eventually likely extract a bigger toll....just not as easy to measure

Is there any surprise that the avatars of consumerism are using their leverage to encourage vaccination?

It's a good thing. As obseity is an additional risk factor for covid free doughnuts seems an ideal incentive.
