Forums' new theme

Post by bigato »

Hi guys,

As you can see, your forums are looking slightly different. Due to a update in the forum software, we were not able to keep the old theme, since this new version is not compatible. So we are now at the default phpbb theme. I hope you people don't dislike it.

In the new version there are some new functionalities, as you can see at:
https://www.phpbb.com/about/launch/

Some of the news include that we now have better support for browsing through smartphones and tablets! There are also notifications when your nick gets mentioned. More details on the link above.

Any possible problems that you find, please send me a private message, since I am not reading all the posts in the forum these days.

Enjoy!

Bigato, I'm sure you realize this, but the links to the blog and the wiki no longer appear at the top of the page.

Yeah, well noted. Jacob agreed to keep the default theme as I recommended as the best way to avoid maintenance in the future. But I see that it would be nice to make these little changes. Maybe I need an apprentice :)

Not complaining, just noting ...

It also doesn't automatically refresh the page. If I'm reading a post, and then click on "active posts", it brings up the last version of that page. I have to manually refresh to see any new posts.

Is this something in my user settings I can change?

hmmm, i don't know... maybe it is working this way now to improve performance under load. But I don't think there is any setting to change this. But I'll take a look again.

Now there's a link to the ERE Blog on the top of the page. There was a setting for this, I didn't even had to change any code :)

Can you add the wiki, too?

If I ask really, really nicely, will you add a "most recent posts" button? I know it's in the drop down menu, but it's easier for newbies if it's obvious.

hmmm, no, i removed the link to the blog. Because when i put the link, then the click on the logo on the top would also redirect to the blog instead of redirecting to the board index.

Regarding the "most recent posts" button, i remember that people were asking exactly for this in 2013 june, when there was another version change. Then everybody got used to where things were :)

I don't know about further customizing the site, I'll think a little about it. I want to avoid trouble.

It looks that there are no settings to change this, so one really have to change the code to make such a change.

I take it the scrolling icon means someone is reading that post in real time?

No, it means the topic is more active than the others.

I can get used to this no problem. But if I only had one wish, it would be to change the colour back. Then it's not like it's a total change... ;)

I like it - Some improvements to make- button for active themes would be good- but it looks "cleaner" good work

Changing colors depends on the existence of new themes for the version 3.1.x of the phpbb forum software. The older themes are not compatible because they changed the structure. Since 3.1 is quite new, there is almost no choice of new themes yet. In some months that may change. Or maybe there is some artist among us that also happens to be able to code. I know that I am no artist :)

It threw me for a little bit of a loop but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I do find the blue to be off putting for some reason.

Most don't like change at first..I'll get used to it with time. Agree on the color comments though. I did like the red.
