I would agree that van living is probably only worthwhile in a very high COL area. Rent and utilities are only $475? That's great, I wouldn't even consider optimizing that. However....

Why are you so far away from the places you like to be? That's a lot of driving. Are all your potential lovers clustered in one area or totally scattered around?

+1 - thats an insanely cheap price to cover key living costs.
If you really want to do it maybe an alternative would be to find someone who was prepared to let you rent their lawn for a cheap price and then use their bathroom and/or kitchen.
