Wanted to give a shout out to "Farm City" and other works by Novella Carpenter:

Farm City is especially inspiring. @7Wannabe5 has mentioned this one before. One of the most memorable things Carpenter did was trolling restaurant dumpsters for scraps for free food to raise a pig on her Oakland city lot.

The Essential Urban Farmer is very dense; I have put off reading it until I'm able to implement some of it, and there may be easier reads on the topic. But if you want to get into the technical details of real urban agriculture, it's probably a good one to have.

Yes, it is a very fun read! If you like that, you might also enjoy "People with Dirty Hands" by Robin Chotzinoff, although it is about the obsession with gardening in general, not limited to permaculture or even the growing of foodstuffs.
