Hi from Romania!

Hi there everyone, glad to be here!
I read Early Retirement Extreme over a year ago and since then I've made some big changes to my lifestyle according to what was recommended. I'm very happy I did, but it hasn't been an easy journey.

The biggest change I did was move to Cluj-Napoca, Romania from Phoenix, Arizona. Long story short, I was driving too much and got and wanted to move to a walkable city with a decent cost of living. I now freelance online but am actively looking for more online work. I just made a blog post on this subject as well if you're more interested... https://johnnyilca.com/2018/05/17/my-take-on-time/
Let me know your thoughts :)

However, I'm not here to promote myself. I've hesitated to get more active on this forum and I simply browsed the material for some time.
Just today, I had a conversation with my brother and he asked me to recommend him more audiobooks that he can listen to while driving. My brother is a truck driver and he really prefers audiobooks. Although I gifted him the book, he doesn't read as much as he used to.

The problem here is that there is no audio book version of ERE. I did some research and found this post: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=486&hilit=audiobook

Jacob, my brother wants an audiobook version of your book. If there's one person that wants it, I'm sure there are others as well. I understand that the book should be used as a reference but I'm sure there must be some way to make it happen and I want to help. Hope to hear your thoughts :)

Not the best attitude as for digital nomad :P
Don't tell this anyone!: just skim for interesting parts in electronic verison. Put them (in parts) in Google Translate (in small parts), find the way to download generated audio (this isn't probably for audiophiles/Engilsh linguists). Or find any trial for text-to-voice software and ab... make most of it. #DIY

Why Romania?
Do you know Romanian language?
Why USA-Romania? Was it more like Romania-USA-Romania due to family upbringing? (this would be more impressive, very IMHO)

I'm being know here as buttmunch (in terms of asked questions). Anyway, hello and good luck!

A lot of reasons but yeah, I have a Romanian background, I know the language, and I have connections here. I was actually born in the US and visited Romania many times with my family but never lived there. But apart from that, it fulfilled a lot of what I was looking for in a new city.
  • Most importantly for me, I wanted to move to a city where I didn't want to rely on a car.
  • The cost of living must be reasonable (walkable cities in the US are expensive as hell).
  • Food and produce in the US is full of chemicals, artificial flavorings, etc. The European Union is more strict on this. The difference in taste is clearly evident, especially in fruit and vegetables.
  • Must be a growing city.
  • A large percentage of the population are students.
  • I want to start a business here, and I can apply for funds for this through the European Union.
  • Different lifestyle. Life got stale back home.
  • To stand out. The more different you are compared to those around you, the more interested people will be in you and the easier it will be to gain influence.

Welcome Johnnyboi1337! Wow, Romania. It must be a big change for you, as you said.
What is the type of business you want to start?

Thanks for having me! I came with the intention of starting a board game cafe with funds from the European Union. However, when I came here I realized that and Airbnb would also be a cool thing to start. Right now, I'm focusing my time on starting this Airbnb and when that is up and running I can focus my time towards my board game cafe.
