Well, since I'm American, I guess I should start with my job. Pension consultant with a background in financial planning. Became a planner because of a financial disaster. As a result of many mistakes made with my mother's estate, my family was in litigation with the IRS for 17 years. I knew when it was done that I'd be broke at an advanced age, so I decided to learn financial planning.
The whole experience turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. It got me out of a bad marriage, found me a career I love, and got my head screwed on straight. Along the way I met a really great guy, and paid off all my debts except for mortgage. That will be gone in four years and my husband will retire. I might, too. Not sure yet.
Your Money or Your Life changed my life, too, Jacob. I think it's the best book ever written on spending. Though your blog comes pretty darned close. You should reach out to Vicki. I think you would like each other.
