Heya,
I'm not totally sure what to write here, compared to some others I don't have a long history.
I just recently graduated with a Masters in CompSci and started working in a small company. I started getting interested in FIRE a couple years ago, but it's hard to save a lot when you study full time. On the upside, I have a thought after degree and thank god - and mostly my parents - I don't have any debt.
Right now I live in a tiny one room apartment, nothing new from my time as a student, and live on about 30% of my income.
I didn't grew up with much and never really increased my lifestyle, so it isn't really a problem to stick to a pretty strict budget.
I joined here after reading a bunch of posts and manly to find something to do with my free time.
FIRE sounds incredible once you get there, but currently I have the problem that I don't know what I would do with all the freetime. I don't even know what to do on weekends So I'm hoping to use this forum as inspiration to find things to try out that work in tandem with the goal of fire, and maybe make some friends on the way.
I'll see you around
~Melo

heya
not letting lifestyle inflation get you as you transition from school to the working world is one of the smartest things you can do when it comes to savings.
when it comes to finding things to do, my suggestion is to literally make a list of things that sound like they might have potential and then start trying them out one by one. Even if you go through the entire list and nothing sticks, you'd still have had a bunch of interesting experiences you can talk to people about and you'd have learned a bunch about the world and yourself.
cheers~

Welcome Melo!
What kind of things do you like? I recently got inspired by https://alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/ and https://beaumiles.com/, maybe this is something for you as well?
And have you read the book by Jacob already? ERE might also give you some insight in how you can combine FIRE with 'having an interesting life post FIRE' by designing your life in a nice way!

That was my main goal, and as another incetive my workplace offers employee apartments, which are tiny but really cheap, so due to that I only pay about 1/3 of normal rent for the area.
Thanks for the resources, I'll check them out after work!Quadalupe wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 4:13 amWhat kind of things do you like? I recently got inspired by https://alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/ and https://beaumiles.com/, maybe this is something for you as well?

I didn't get to Jacobs book yet, but it's on the top of my reading list
