Re: Priority 1: Health

It will always be a regret that I shrugged off counting calories... Would you expand on this? I'm guessing you mean that you used to be resistant to spending the effort to track calories, and as a result spent a lot of time not achieving your body composition goals, and once you started you were mu...

Re: the animal's journal

Baby animal has offered a somewhat unexpected opportunity for further physical training. Carrying her around strengthens the forearms like nothing I’ve experienced, with the sole exception being when I did the 500 daily kettlebell swing challenge. We do not use a stroller or any carriers not connec...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Right on, I hope the new eating regimen goes well! Sounds like some solid workouts between rowing and shoveling, haha. Nice work! Progress is progress. I see. I suggested a suspension trainer (I recommend NOSSK given the combination of multple anchoring systems & very affordable, but these thing...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Nice work on the weight & stash.

What has your recent workout routine looked like?

I hear you on the height limitations. Have you thought about some sort of doorway or garage pull-up bar, a suspension trainer (TRX, NOSSK, etc.), & dumbbells for a nice hybrid bodyweight/dumbbell program?

It's fun to read along with your baking/pizza experiments...but it's making me super hungry :D!

Glad the tooth extraction went well, dental work is never fun. Nice to have it done and settled.

@7

I like your style, seems really cozy. Perhaps ascetic from the furniture perspective, but still very homey from the other nice touches...especially warm muffins!

Re: Would 20M Radically Increase Your Happiness?

@Humanofearth Haha off topic but still of interest to me! Yeah, I recall hearing that - the structure of the stomach region dictates how many "packs" you can have. I suppose my point was that for people with a potential for a 6 pack currently sitting with 4, they need to cut off a little m...

Re: Alcohol moderation

Nice @Salathor! I didn't comment upthread, but I've been avoiding alcohol since last October. Wasn't drinking much before that, but decided to completely stop the pattern of having several drinks every few months. The benefits discussed upthread apply for me. So far, no desire to resume. #teetotal20...

Re: Dave's Journal - documenting the path to FI

All settled on this little sojourn into the warmth and sunshine. Our rental is furnished, but had to source an additional monitor for DW's work setup. Luckily there is a robust Craigslist market and store base for such things. The biggest challenge is the schedule: we are maintaining CST hours being...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

I'm only up to reading 2005's journal but I'm already spotting patterns and trends that I didn't realize went back so far. As in, change the names and specific details, and I've been living one story on repeat since the early oughts. Super interesting stuff. I'm starting to connect some dots that I...

Re: Would 20M Radically Increase Your Happiness?

Having $20M would barely change my hapiness at all in what it could do for me. It would open some doors, but those doors are deep into diminishing returns territory. The only thing it would be is a signifier that I am achieiving success in an activity (investing) that I enjoy. Probably similar to go...

Re: White Belt's Military Journey to FI

Sorry to hear about your ennui/difficulties @whitebelt.

Never had your specific work setup challenges, but I've had phases with some of those feelings and it can be tough. I'm hopeful the next phase of work/life for you is kinder w.r.t schedule.

Re: Furniture Free Living

@bostonimproper Really appreciate that response, lots of good things to think about! I'm staying in a short-term rental with a couch-coffee table setup that should allow me to test that out. To the lab! If you think to, I'd be interested in hearing where you land with the floor mattress setup. I've ...

Re: Furniture Free Living

@bostonimproper Very interesting! So what is your sitting setup/posture like? Are you sitting cross-legged on the floor with your arms/elbow at a 90 degre angle to keyboard? And elevated monitor to eye level? Back mostly straight? Did this take a while to get acclimated to? I'm curious re. your comm...

Re: Priority 1: Health

Right on, I relate to that. Nice, sounds like a good setup! I switched to a chest/shoulder/tri and back/bi/legs/core split, 3 sessions per week total (so 1.5x per muscle group per week) with total weekly volume per muscle group somewhere 7-14 rather than 10-20, BUT much higher intensity via reverse ...

Re: Decentralizing FI for strategic reasons?

Appreciate the ongoing commentary here, good stuff. You sneaky SoB, going from 10x v 50x to 10x v 100x... Hahaha, you caught me :-P. Nah, I reread what I said and I wasn’t very clear there. Embedded in the $750K-1M comment was supposed to be a note that I was taking 50x of a somewhat higher level of...

Re: Lemur Journal!

@Lemur We're hearing more and more about PFAS contamination, aren't we? I haven't dug much into it, but it seems troubling. Did you read one of the articles circulating about the freshwater fish PFAS content? Really sucks. I'm not much of a fisher, but have thought about getting back into it as a fo...

Re: Decentralizing FI for strategic reasons?

Right on AH, got it. Well, if not already clear from my comments above I really like what you fleshed out there! What you proposed seems to me to be the most robust way to approach semiERE as it seems to be the best of both worlds, with just a timing emphasis of skills before financial capital. I co...
