<t>Yes. At that price range I'd get a Trek520. Steel frame, braze ons (in case you ever want to transport something bigger than a saddlebag), drop bars (flat handlebars are no good for longer distances), clearance for fenders. It's a classic that hasn't changed for decades. You can get models used w...

@Violet - Try to use a thermometer to keep the temperature of the water at 194F before pouring it in. It'll be even better.

<t>@hickchick - Indeed, conversely, I'm not smart enough to reach the average reader. Or maybe I have too much elitist integrity/snobbery to compromise and start writing at a 3rd grade level just to be widely understood. Also, fortunately, I don't need to be expedient about my writing style.<br/> <b...

@chilly - I just meant that in the sense that most pf bloggers (out of which a great deal are INTJs) still write about standard middle class advice.
So while INTJ almost seems like a necessary (in 75%+ of the cases anyway) condition for ERE, it is not a sufficient condition.

<r>@happyhippo13 - I would say that very little of the book's content is derived from the blog. It's not really fair to compare the two beyond the fact that the subjects are identical and that they were both written by the same person. The treatment is completely different. It's like comparing a sub...

<t>Early retirement in general draws predominantly from the INTJ and ISTJ types. Also some INTP. I think this comes down to competent money handling skills as much as it comes down to a desire for job-independence. <br/> If you do a general survey of personal finance bloggers, you'll find that many ...

<t>@rachels - A Westsail 32 for $30k? The ones I've seen were closer to twice that---I suspect they command a premium because the "Wet Snail" is the first blue water cruiser people think of. <t>I think some of us see ERE as the first step and what you outline as a possible second step. Money is still seen as power/security.
