Re: FI in Sweden

Hi Forskaren, I think you have a solid plan and I think the rationale for dialing down risk is sound. Why keep playing the game if you have already won? A 60/40 allocation still gives good room for growing your nest egg as long as you continue to work. Can I ask why monthly savings are not simply se...

Re: the dollar journal

Hi thedollar, It sounds like you're in a rough spot and I'm sorry about that. I've enjoyed following your journal here and will continue to do so. I will admit that the latest market turmoil has taken me by surprise. Not so much the depth of the drops (we've seen those before in history), but the sp...

Re: Just another journal

Fixing flats and changing tires is something that I've always done myself. I recently had several flats in a row on the same tube in a matter of weeks (while not having had any in over a year), and so I decided to buy an anti-flat tire. Great work on the savings rate! Are you sure you should be pick...

Re: Journal From A Dane

Thanks! In terms of casinos, milking is probably stretching it. I just take the occasional freespins. There's a few casinos like Betway that only require you to wager 10x though, but I tend to pass up even those offers. High wagering requirements is exactly how I got burned. I made a calculation tha...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

Sounds like you are realizing more of the benefits of FI. Not being forced to have a specific job is indeed a nice perk! Sometimes you just have to decide if it's worth the effort to speak up about things that aren't working as they should be. I'm still early in my working life, but I've experienced...

Re: Just another journal

Hi just! It's great to see more danes doing journals on this board. I too have recently begun matched betting, so I would be very interested in hearing about what signup offers you discovered. Do you have perhaps have a decent resource for us danes? I signed up with OddsMonkey, but it's very UK-cent...

Re: Journal From A Dane

Just taking the deposits to savings/investments as a fraction of income might not be a bad way to go. Perhaps I'll trim down to doing that starting next year. It obviously won't be fully accurate, but it should provide a reasonable approximation.

I agree with wolf. The fact that colleagues are happy to work with you is something that I would consider a big plus. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the best qualities you can have as an employee.

Re: the dollar journal

The topic of insurance is an important one. I think most people buy too much insurance and pay dearly for it. But going without insurance can be risky as well if you end up in a catastrophic situation. Optimally, you should only insure against events that would have immense financial consequences. I...

@jacob - A great breakdown of two different types of schedules that I never really thought of. It makes perfect sense as getting interrupted at work is the single biggest source of professional frustration.

Sorry to hear about the missed contract, but it sounds like you did the right thing. No sense in bidding yourself down to bargain basement levels in that case. I hear you about working in a quiet area. One of the main challenges I've had where I currently work is that it's one of those big open offi...

@thedollar: Keep me posted! I went from a BMI of 26.3 to 21.5 about 6-7 years ago, but now I'm back up to 25.4. Ideally I'd like to land right around 23 as I felt most comfortable there. I also had more muscle mass as I was doing some bodyweight exercises, which really showed. It's pretty fascinatin...
