Re: Pseudoanonymity and/or exiting cyberspace

I am close to getting my system up and running in a way similar to my previous system. At this time, I have: VPN on my desktop computer, but not yet on Android or my laptop. On my desktop, I have separated Google services to the Chrome browser, and other websites to Firefox. I have changed all my pa...

Re: Advice for starting... bread business?

If you take a loan, you are tied to the business. If you start small, you can walk away or transform if anything doesn't work out right.

Some additional thoughts on the quilt design above. I wrote that up about 6 months ago, and have spent quite a few nights under quilts since then. Here is a source of insulation. https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/synthetic-insulation Climashield Apex insulation is a type for backpacking quilt...

Re: Sven Yrvind - 81 year old sailor

I have been following Sven for a long time, including following his latest track from Norway to the Madieras islands. I like a lot of what he says, however you need to take it with a grain of salt. Some if it seems to be marketing to get sponsors/patrons for his boatbuilding projects. I was very dis...

Re: No Time Like Right Now - sky's journal

I used to think that working to improve "civilization" was a way to improve the human condition. Now I question that and wonder if the human condition would be improved by returning to a more prehistoric tribal nomadic lifestyle. At least on the individual level, as an option to civilizati...

Re: Pseudoanonymity and/or exiting cyberspace

I am not trying to hide my identity, I am a known item. I am putting Google in a sandbox so it only datalogs me when I use Google services. The most important thing that I did was to change my passwords, for the first time in about a decade. I have been very lazy in regard to security. I was quite s...

Re: Maintaining happiness/contentedness despite adversity

2020 was a very good year for me. There were some concerns and some annoyances, to be sure, but my personal life was very pleasant. I hope that those who did not have such a pleasant experience in 2020 forgive me, but I think 2020 was an excellent year.

Re: a planter's garden

I would recommend a large minivan. It is large enough to change your clothes, use the toilet, and wash yourself in a private place inside the van. It is stealthy enough to park overnight in any legal parking space anywhere. If it is mechanically in good condition and has good tires you will be able ...

Re: No Time Like Right Now - sky's journal

Here is a how-to I recently put together, to make a backpacking quilt. https://i.redd.it/82qm5xqnunv41.png This quilt is designed for a high level of comfort at low weight and bulk volume. The goal is to get a good night's sleep and to manage persperation with good breathability. The cut out plan ...

Re: Pseudoanonymity and/or exiting cyberspace

I am thinking that the solution is not to attempt anonymity, but to move to less screentime and more time in the real world. I would like to learn how to reduce my internet profile, but still participate and use the net in a positive way. I want enough security to not lose money to hackers. I am dis...

Thank you for all the helpful comments. Generally when I put together this type of spreadsheet, either professionally or for personal use, I start with a pessimistic outlook to give a worst case or perhaps negative outlook scenario. I would be most concerned about a revaluation of the USD in the nex...

Re: Pseudoanonymity and/or exiting cyberspace

My threat model (as of today) is that I see the fake news networks moving from cable TV to the internet in force. Using a Russia style deep fake strategy, where all political factions are pandered to by their own video networks/news outlets/forums that are entirely created and managed by a group or ...
