Re: Methods and examples of highly developed social capital

Find myself a hot mess and start fixing (often blinded by their attractiveness, too). Right, and you were also blinded to the realization that their attractiveness was the complementary vacuum to your fixing or provision of emotional support. Once you fully expose this blind spot you realize that f...

@AxelHeyst:

That would be very cool. Best case scenario I will be focusing on permaculture site prep for next season at that juncture. Worst case scenario I will still need help with all the broken windows :o

Re: Methods and examples of highly developed social capital

I think because I come off as a pleasant person IRL, people are mostly amused by my overtly transactional social banter.

Re: Green Tech Future Revival?

@JCD: There are many ideas for such technological fixes. There are two general problems with almost all of them. The first being the inherent risks of second order disasters attempting global scale scientific experiments. The second being that the future and/or worst effects of global climate change...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I disagree that ability to solve all problems with social skills is equivalent to solving all problems with money. Money is uniform. Social skills aren’t. Off the top of my head, a human might or might not possess the social skills of charm, dominance, humility, cooperation, humor, patience, empathy...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

@jacob: I know the example was meant to be trivial, but one of my current frustrations is that a large proportion of my social circle consists of grouchy old reasonably frugal Midwestern engineer types who would function at average of level 6.5 on the problem you detailed, yet they barely believe in...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

@chenda: I think those dwellings were mentioned in “A Pattern Language.”It attempts to morph architecture/design with psychology/anthropology through description of basic human patterns. It even touches on spirituality in description of some patterns such as the one related to trees. @zbigi: Actuall...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Lol- Yeah, I agree that compromise sucks. It’s also true that both/and often requires more energy than either/or. I think what I’m about lately is attempt to adjust all the dials on both/and system until what emerges is good. Maybe call it ambient utility.

Re: Just Gravy

Of course it’s not bad to feel great. I found myself joyfully dancing across the living room floor the day after my ex moved out. However, I would note that your feelings may and likely will vary over time. It’s a process.

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Identity might be too strong a word, maybe something more like evolving collection of preferences and values. It’s pretty clear that some humans become ever more rigid in “I am Sam. Sam I am. I do not like green eggs and ham” as they age, because we all suffer from more than a bit of sunk cost falla...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

One problem is that our infrastructure is not designed to promote incidental social yields. For instance, in “A Pattern Language”, the urban/architectural design ideal would be a cluster of houses ( each house containing its own more public or intimate spaces as appropriate to constitution of househ...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

“Money flows in your direction when you do the work that other people want you to do.” I read this in a very good book with title/author I can’t recall. The general topic was varying money myths taught by families of origin. This could be generalized to “Yields flow in your direction when you do the...

Re: Just Gravy

Two kitchens always cost more $$ than one kitchen, but same holds true for singles who choose to live alone as divorced folk. It’s just that the math doesn’t come on as sudden and shocking. So, maybe divorce expense should/could be depreciated over time until your next shack up?-lol. I was a complet...

@daylen: Although superficially familiar, I haven’t actually read anything by Wilber or “Integral Ecology.” I just downloaded sample chapters of “IE” and Wilber’s “Sex, Ecology, Spirituality.” Based on brief perusal, I think some related titles I have read and would recommend would be “Braiding Swee...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

The need to periodically restructure identity as we age is not limited to salaried employment. Kids leaving the nest is another big transition, and giving up the business I had started myself felt like a much bigger identity loss than leaving salaried employment. OTOH, I find that going out and gett...

Re: 7Wannabe5- Take 7- The Money Dimple

@Alphaville: I wasn’t thinking of anything major. More like how I theoretically have equity in ginseng crop project on The Cowboy’s acreage. OTOH, there are plenty more tiny dilapidated properties nearby, so could grow into networked neighborhood project with both private and shared equity. For simp...

@chenda: Fermentation for sure. Probably don’t want to set up anything that might look like meth lab in my location. @white belt: There are several universities in the city. One just a few miles from me. I actually think this opportunity would be best suited for somebody who has achieved or nearly a...

Re: 1 Jacob Adjusted For Inflation (JAFI)

@white belt: True, but I would note that this change happens much more rapidly in modern context. Obvious example would be my experience educating recently immigrated refugee status girls from poor conservative Muslim regions. There were some notable exceptions for sure, but in general they were a h...

Open Offer Urban Permaculture

No need to wade through the verbosity of my journal. I am now offering free code violation housing and/or possible equity stake in my urban permaculture project. If you do not get kicked out of extremely uncomfortable shed/theoretical tiny house by authorities, your expenses could instantly approach...
