Re: Gilberto de Piento's Journal
Thanks for your openness of sharing your thoughts and feelings. Why do you think you "have mostly wasted the last 10 - 15 years" ? I think the same sometimes, too. If I think about the last 10 to 15 years in my life, I am not really sure, if everything was good. And I'll fantasize, if I co...

Hi LiberateMind. Congratulations on quitting! From what I read on your journal you are very well prepared for the life you want in the next x years. I just looked it up, when you first posted here. It's almost eight years, and what you achieved since then. Wow! Wish you all the best and would be gre...

regarding health insurance in Germany: if you are mployed, then it will automatically deducted by your monthly gross income. if you were retired early, then you have to pay at least around 180€. in both cases: the higher your income, the more you have to pay for it. There is a ceiling of course. reg...

Your "sabbatical" plans sound great. Congrats on the record in lowest spending too! During your planned sabbaticals, will you have to pay extra for health insurance, or is it still covered by your employer (partly)? Second question: How is the wealth tax calculated? Also on real estate, or...

Re: Changes to the 4% rule
Redo, I don't quite agree with your definition of "0% SWR". SWR is about withdrawing money and not about ROI. But I had also difficulties defining it, while thinking about it. The best definition (in the context of ERE) I came up is this: With a 0% SWR you could withdraw money infinitely.

demand for IT work in Germany is huge. If you performed well in the past (which I assume), you should not have a problem finding the next gig. Nevertheless that means change and one has to adapt. Take care and I wish you the best findung a path forward!

Thank you c_L, very much appreciated. Yes, I would say so, that mostly I "settled into a calm consistency to maintain this low spending output" (well said c_L) In the last few months I bought some new computer games and movies/tv series. I were always patient and bought them when they were...

Great update of your journal! Looking forward to save more is a good motivation.
If you do a great job at work, you could/should ask for more benefits.
Have you already read the autobiography of Arnold Schwarzenegger? I liked it a lot back when I read it.

in my point of view the benefits of a slowtravelling ERE Club would be: community, common/similiar mindset, creativity, DIY inspiration, lower cost due to higher efficiency, more flexibility and higher resilience, like a coliving gang of modern renaisance man and woman
