Re: COVID19 and boycotting Chinese made

People must really dislike stereotype of American MAGA hat guy with pickup truck so much that they start to speak in glowing terms of organ-harvesting ethnically homogeneous totalitarian dictatorship. I think Trump has done damage to USA's brand. Once Trump is out I can see USA very much returning ...

Re: COVID + Residential Real Estate?

Property prices in NZ expected to fall 12% this year. Its not a lot compared to how ridiculously expensive and unaffordable it is anyway but its a good start. Hopefully it drops by another 12% again next year. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12341783&fbcl...

Re: COVID19 and boycotting Chinese made

The suggestion is that an absence of US leadership globally has left a vacuum which China is more than happy to fill. This is true. USA is too distracted with its own internal issues. It needs to get things together. Im not sure how well China's bid for leadership will go though, given that China h...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic

But in my own personal opinion, I don't think the current movement will last. I don't see how a movement predicated on hating White people or using race as a means of rating someone's virtue will succeed when 60% of the population is white (70% if you include white Hispanics). The numbers are not o...

Re: COVID-19

NZ GDP results for first quarter out. God ridiculously slow. Its the lowest GDP in 29 years. 1.6% drop. The decline is expected to be much bigger for quarter 2.

So... on the economic front Sweden seems to be winning.

Re: COVID-19

The govt has stuffed up border control in NZ. We are no longer virus free. Two women who returned from the UK were allowed to leave quarantine on compassionate grounds and not propely checked first. More than a week later they tested positive for the virus. I wonder how many people they have infecte...

Re: COVID-19

2 new cases in NZ after weeks of nothing. When I first saw I was thinking WTF is going on! Then found out that they are both returning NZers from the UK who are stuck in quarantine after arriving at the border. Thank goodness. So its nothing to do with any virus here. They will be in quarantine unti...

Re: Psychological challenge of sticking with a volatile portfolio

I thnik you absolutely must stop looking at it at all. I have been through this experience recently as well and just completely stopped checking. And do not do any net worth tallys at all for at least 6 months to maybe a year. Staring at it is a little bit like staring at a huge plate full of cakes ...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic

Following 23 consecutive days of no new cases the lockdown is well un-wound in NZ. Things have gone from one extreme to the other. From the most locked down country in the world to the least locked down. NZ hosted both of the worlds most attended events over the weekend, a rugby game in Auckland wit...

Rent have been plummeting across major Australian cities. Sydney rent prices are back to 2013 levels. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/may/21/rents-fall-as-landlords-struggle-to-fill-vacant-properties-during-australias-coronavirus-crisis?fbclid=IwAR1WbETz78dVmn9dO1wvXNWQNs1N5kuD1zAd_2...

Re: COVID + Residential Real Estate?

There is loads of news coming out of Australia about rents dropping and property investors exiting and selling up. I hope this feeds over to NZ. https://www.afr.com/property/residential/the-property-investment-party-is-over-20200611-p551q4?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=nc&utm_source=Faceboo...

Re: COVID + Residential Real Estate?

Anyone else seeing any impact on property yet? In NZ Im seeing it. Well, proper detached houses do not seem impacted at this stage. But it does seem quite obviously in the apartment market in the central city areas of the biggest cities. Most apartments are not selling, the vast majority of auctions...

Re: COVID-19

Right, corona is not really a social problem in Nigeria where only 3% of the population is over 65. But developing countries with some state capacity and big testing programs are not seeing a whole lot of corona, or at least they're seeing it much later than other countries. India for example. Big ...

Re: COVID-19

I don't believe deaths are 5x under-reported in developed countries, which appear to be the main victims so far. I guess thats the point though. Are the develope countries the main victims or is it just because they record and report statstics more accurately. I think its the latter. Every past dis...

Re: COVID-19

Corona seems dead. The riots have not caused a second wave in the US. Largely reopened countries (Italy, Iran, etc.) have not experienced second waves. As far as I am aware there have been no second waves anywhere. Either improvised masks and mild distancing (i.e. voluntary measures that became com...

Well, at least you live in a disease free utopia with a hot prime minister.
Yes this is true. You think she is hot? I have thought of her as young for a PM and kind of attactive, but I wouldnt have thought hot. But then its a real juxtaposition next to Trump I suppose.
