Re: Montreal Meetup - September 15

Great !
Where and when ? I will leave it to you too for suggestions of places since I don't know the city very well anymore. Something close to a metro station would be appreciated. I will bring the book.

Re: Montreal Meetup - September 15

Alright. I just like to travel at this time of the year because the plane ticket is much cheaper and also to get a bit more daylight. Been living in the darkness since late November. It is a great mental break. Almost didn't make it, we are in the middle of a cold snap. I was careless yesterday and ...

Re: What is a "good" work ethic, and how do you sustain one?

@Colibri Yes, absolutely, you are correct. Actually, I searched on translation websites (linguee, etc.) to see how the term is translated, and I was surprised to see "éthique professionnelle" since I never, ever heard that expression in a conversation, nor have I seen it in print (I’m a french-spea...

Re: Personality Typing

Okay Daylen, you seems to be quite knowledgeable about personnality types.

Question: I am dancing between IFNJ and ISFP on MB's test. What does that mean ? In terms of not being fixed on one type and also with those two particular types ?

Re: What is a "good" work ethic, and how do you sustain one?

Funny enough, "work ethic" does not exist in french. We could translate it by something like "hard worker", but there is really no expression in use that conveys the whole meaning. I guess that tells something about work in America/the anglosphere (or about work in the francosphere?). Éthique profe...

Re: classical_Liberal's Semi-ERE

Do what you know and/or what you are passionate/ driven by.
And find a market place for it like 7W5 said.

You can start very small. Renting a table at the local craft fair to sell your homemade wooden spoon ?

"There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing." - Alfred Wainwright- British hill walker ;) I agree. But if you don't like the cold, you don't like it. I love it so no problems with the weather up here. The ice skating season is just starting. It is that window at the begining of ...

Re: classical_Liberal's Semi-ERE

Thanks for sharing your experiences classical_Liberal. I really appreciate reading your semi-ERE journal. I have been semi-ERE for 2 years now with ups and downs. Boredom, lack of motivation and feeling like I am waisting my life have all been on my mind but I also did some very cool stuff that I wo...

My 2 cents here on the GF challenge. I live in the north as well, Yukon Territory. I live in the city with 30 000 other people so there is plenty of men here. But my romantic life has not been what I was hoping for. I had an interesting conversation with my ex-BF, the guy I was dating this winter th...

Hello, I work in architecture here in Canada. Just my 2 cents of advices : Depending if you work for a big firm or self-employed, being an architect is about 25% design \ creative work and about 75% of researching and project management (dealing with crooked contractors, difficult clients, fighting ...

Chickpea and great northern bean are the main two I eat and like. Chickpea masala, yummy ! and I really enjoy making French-Canadian "bine" in maple syrup with great northern bean. So satisfying after a long day x-c skiing (I know, I know winter is over) Black bean and rice "à la mexican" is quite g...

@Colibri: Happy to hear you were mistaken about rejection due to frugality. However, I still think it would be very ERE to rescue a sweater from under some rotting stuff as long as you wore gloves and washed it before wearing. I actually did it once. It was not a sweater but a beautifully hand craf...

Are.... do you mean the landfil? Or "dumpster diving' from a clothing store? Can you share more about this? Even as an open-minded ERE'er, I would be quite surprised if a date puts an image in my mind of her scrounging around the county dump. (I had to go to one a few times for work, and, man, I wo...

Re: Unintended Consequences of Carbon Taxes or the Real Deal

It is likely a scam in my humble opinion but at the same time if things like gas price and electricity climb, I am hopeful (naive?) that it will force people to re-evaluate their consumption (lower). People don't change until you touch their wallet. Perhaps, no more jumping in your F-150 to go get b...

Re: Going without a fridge

@Loner, smartypants ! and yes I have seen "la glacière" in older Montreal apartments. I know they worked well. But I have no idea how they were able to lift all that ice on 2nd floor apartments... Would be easier to collect snow instead of ice for me, I am too far from a lake. Some very keen individ...
