Re: Traveling as a reimbursed employee/contractor

So It turns out the office that managed my travel/payment/whatever just billed the client $71/day as if that is what I recieved. Now I wish I'd made a bigger effort to spend more.

Oh man, I accidentally found the most amazing space today with opera. This city is so different than what I'm used to.

So, Monday or Tuesday? PM me or each other your numbers and we'll do it.

Re: Occupation and identity

What do you do? Whatever I want! How? I live very frugally. Sometimes I pick up odd jobs. I alternately just say whatever comes to mind that I've been doing lately or, "boring things on the Internet." A few times I've introduced myself as just a common whore. Humility will take you far.

Not to state the obvious, but if smoke from your woodstove is doing anything other than going up the pipe and out of the house, you're doing it wrong.

Re: Traveling as a reimbursed employee/contractor

Jacob, it's by city and a lot of cities are less. I think my travel days are $41. Apparently I'm going to an expensive city: http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100120

It's not a research grant or related to research at all.

Right, Jacob. Hence my question about how to maximize reimbursables without overdoing it.

Re: Traveling as a reimbursed employee/contractor

Interesting. They are covering my airfare upfront and they made reservations for me at a hotel they will reimburse for. Ground travel and etc is fully reimbursed. Then there's "meals and incidental expenses" which can be reimbursed up to $70/day.

Traveling as a reimbursed employee/contractor

The government is paying my way to speak at a conference! The rules all seem really weird and last minute but I can get reimbursed up to $70/day for meals and incidentals. Obviously I don't want to cheat, but I really have no idea how this sort of thing is done. What's incidental? A movie? Tylenol? ...

Re: Heimo Korth: The Final Frontiersman

People who were living sustainable subsistence lifestyles and rotating between a few areas to let the land replenish weren't grandfathered in. Only the people who could prove they'd been in one cabin for I think 3 years. The government does make it difficult, but one can still live a mostly subsiste...

Dude. I've got some wood for you to chop - it's actually a crossfit exercise but with real wood. I'll only charge you $50/month for an hour a day. ;)

Re: How would you use money to influence society?

I've been trying to change the world for a little bit now and based on my narrow, limited experience I'm gonna say journalism. All the emails and calls in the world made zero difference to politicians here, but as soon as we had a press conference they wrote (completely ineffective) legislation.

Until recently I would have said that since it ultimately affects you it's ultimately your decision and nobody else's. Then I heard an interview with the author of this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0300186088 I learned that people have always had depression, dark nights of the soul, and suici...

Re: Oilfield Blues

Oh hey! I milked the oil field cash economies for years and spent quite a bit of time in Williston or Minot. I've had a lot of clients who do oil field work. Within ten years they either specialize or burn out. Since you already have the connections I would consider a retirement career as an oil fie...

Re: Successful Online Business Examples?

I think I've typed this out elsewhere, but here's a brief overview: Self publishing on Amazon. I published two very short books over a year ago and continue to make $700/m (closer to $1k for the first 8 months or so). Niche porn. I've built a small following and it seems that I can make about $200 (...
