Re: Lending Club Sadness
I was really happy when I finally pulled my last dollar out of LendingClub, between the defaults, tax complications, not really trusting the reporting... But I am tempted by the IRA bonus they're offering through April 30th :\ http://blog.lendingclub.com/lending-clu ... nus-offer/

Sign up for ebay bucks... I routinely get offers for 8% ebay bucks, $100 max ($1,250 @ 8%). Purchased with 2% credit card, or 6% off gift cards, it is routinely well under spot and can be flipped instantly for $50+ profit/coin locally... I like apmex as seller on ebay.

Re: Permanent Portfolio in this environment?
I still think it's a pretty bulletproof capital preservation portfolio, but performance depends too much on gold performance. Last 5 years gold down, avg return 3%, the 5 years before that gold up, avg 9% return... Might just be a function of real inflation, however. Now that we're approaching a per...

That's what I mean, he should be condemning the violence-lubbers along with some inspirational message or something.. not threatening the University/peaceful protesters or pitting Americans against each other. From all reports the University was completely doing the right things (despite their hist...

Re: Which brokerage do you use?
Anyone know a bank/broker that would I could liquidate holdings on Monday and have a cashier's check of those funds on Wednesday? Or a broker/bank combo that has affordable wire fees both ways? I'm bidding on housing auctions, about 2 a month, but hate to park so much money in USD, earning next to n...

See a lot of desktops with decent specs (2-3GHz duo/quad, 8GB), given away on Craigslist... Add inexpensive SSD, put on Linux Mint and you've got a very nice, fast machine.

Yes, it renders PDF maps an places your GPS location on the map.
Very useful for using existing cartography in field where most mobile baselayers would show up blank (eg Google Maps on forest roads).

I don't know about UK or AU, but in US this is a great strategy thanks to the Primary Residence Capital Gains Tax Exclusion. Every 2-5 years you can sell for up to $250k [$500k married] (-minus purchase price) without paying taxes. I try to buy at auction the best value house ≥3 bedroom + 2≥ bath an...

@J_L13: Yes, I was talking about traditional IRA. I found out they would retain status as after tax in traditional IRA... I learned they are eligible to be 100% rolled over into Roth... Nice workaround for getting Roth loaded during accumulation phase. I wish I would have known that and I would've p...

I have some after-tax contributions (only about $40k) in my old retirement that I can either cashout tax free, or transfer to new job retirement plan... Planning on full retirement in 2-5 years at which time the new retirement plan will be dumped into standard IRA and then rolled over into Roth base...

Annual maintenance, taxes and insurance on my mid 90s Corolla/mid 70s truck is less than $500... They have appreciated in value since I got them (good care, low miles). They have enabled access to time sensitive investments/deals (auctions, building materials, appliances) I wouldn't have access to w...

Re: Walking as Transportation
I like walking, more than biking, and do it basically everyday... On my 30 minute lunch break I can walk 3 miles. This slows if it is raining or if there is snow on the ground. Also I do not have to interact/wait for traffic during this at all. I sometimes do a 10 mile loop for fun and last time it ...

Re: Most environmentally friendly tool to floss teeth with?
A pick needs to be pliable yet strong and resistant to decay. Does anything, other than plastic, meet those requirements? I use these and I use them until the floss breaks, A 75 pack lasts me 1-2 years and I find them 5 x times easier and more effective than string floss: http://http://www.amazon.co...

Re: How to find BIFL products
Can anyone recommend a BIFL daily carry backpack (preferred) or messenger bag (acceptable)?... I know there are some leather bags with 100 year warranties, but many of them also weigh 8 lbs, which I think would get annoying.
Ideas? Thanks!

Re: How to follow the warrior diet? (I'll read the book eventually)
Excellent points guys. I must admit I never a) tried to eat much more the night before to account for next day's activities and b) usually when I was doing this manual labor meals were provided (not especially healthy) and the dinners wouldn't be enough to support warrior diet. I suppose, like anyth...
