Re: Help me find out what makes me unemployable, please.

Put your degree on your resume but just leave off the graduation year.

Bam, resume gap gone.

Maybe.

Re: Programming bootcamps?

@TopHatFox: IIRC, didn't you try taking Computer Science in college and did badly in it? If that's correct I don't think a bootcamp would be a good idea for you.

Re: BeyondtheWrap's Journal

OK, I decided that I'm going to start journaling again. Things that I had left out of my entries in early 2016: In the winter, I realized that I still had a lot of really old clothes that I had worn while attending high school in the mid-00s. I attended a prep school and so I had several old dress s...

Re: Using ERE for other purposes ?

The basic idea of ERE is that by reducing your consumption you reduce the amount you work. If you spend 25% of your income, you only have to work 25% as much as someone who spends 100%. Most followers of ERE do this by having a shorter career, around 5-10 years (about 25% of a full career length), b...

Are the other 3 of you still on board? Unfortunately, I can only be there for a little while (about 3:30-4:00), and that's if the rest of you are still around when I get there.

Is this Saturday still good for the rest of you?

Looks like rain is in the forecast this Saturday.

When wearing long socks, should you pull them up all the way?

I have a lot of socks whose elastic has stretched out over time. Since my calves are wider than my ankles, I wonder if pulling my socks up all the way causes the elastic to wear out faster. But then, pushing them down to the ankles might also be bad because of the fabric bunching up and stretching i...

Re: ERE NYC Meetup? Oct 2017~

OK so according to the poll it looks like there is no day that will accommodate all 4 of us who showed interest. Although I responded to the poll that I couldn't do Saturdays, I would still be able to attend if I arrive later in the afternoon (around 3:30). So I'd be fine with the meetup starting ea...

The calculation is the same. After paying off the condo, whatever your annual expenses are, multiplied by 25-33.

Re: Ways to reduce money supply?

But for the purpose of this discussion, take the simplest case -- a personal bankruptcy that is a liquidation. You owe $10,000 of unsecured debt to a bank, say on a credit card. To the bank, that money is recorded as an asset on its books, representing an account receivable (money receivable now or...

This just seems like a natural extension of socialist thought. Unproductive serfs should be punished. How is this an extension of socialist thought? It seems like socialism would be ok with unemployed people getting services without paying taxes. It's an extension of socialist thought because of "F...

OK, so to recap, the meetup will be this Sunday, February 5, at 1:00 pm at fuyu's office. The address has been PM'd to the relevant users (BeyondtheWrap, Chris, fuyu, and Smashter). We will meet in the lobby of the building, and, when all who are expected to come have arrived, we will take the eleva...

Re: Growth limitations? "Is this all there is to life"?

Find your passion. Or your mission, whatever you want to call it. Change the world/Help people/Contribute something original. What did you used to want to do when you grow up? Or, as the years go by, what do you regret not doing? What do you look forward to? What do you look back on and think was a ...

I suggest not hanging out in your van if you don't have to. Have hobbies that involve spending time in heated buildings that you don't live in. Just use the van for sleep and storage.

Re: Advantages to having high net worth, aside from spending it

Assuming constant expenses, the higher your net worth is, you can tolerate a smaller percentage return on your investments. So if you're into socially conscious investing (which seems to have a lower return than the total market), it would be easier to invest your conscience if you have a high net w...
