Re: Paying Down Student Loans or Income Based Repayment

You really have to do the math with the specific numbers for your situation. Calculate what your payments would be based on your income. You may find that your loans will be paid off before the 25 years is up, in which case it would be better to pay them off earlier. Also, you are making the assumpt...

Re: Are emojis hieroglyphs?

No, they are not. Emojis represent emotions. They do not represent language. You cannot write instruction manuals or epic poems using just emojis. Emojis are used to specify a feeling, usually held by the person using them, and help give context to whatever sentence is written using language. Emojis...

I completed the outfit by buying a dress shirt
A dress shirt, or a “casual button-up”? I was annoyed when I learned that they’re not the same thing.

Re: Student Loan Delinquencies - Next Recession Trigger?

I was recently dating a woman who had over $100k in student loan debt. She had a degree in library and information sciences. As a librarian, even is she got some fabulous job working for the Library of Congress, she was looking at a max potential income of maybe $50k a year. She said that the only ...

Re: NYC meet and greet?

The meetup occurred yesterday; Jin+Juice and I were in attendance. Topics of conversation included bike commuting, the importance of having a like-minded social circle, and the question of when DIY is really worth it.

Re: NYC meet and greet?

@BeyondTheWrap: Any time/ location constraints? Currently looking at an undetermined time and an undetermined place somewhere near midtown. Near midtown would be ideal. If we're looking at the weekend, my availability would be limited to the beginning of the day. I'd be able to do Saturday until 11...

Re: BeyondtheWrap's Journal

So starting around the beginning of May 2016 I was working six hours per day, four days per week. In addition to applying for jobs in my field, I decided that I would start working on my acting career again (which I had mostly neglected since graduating college) now that I had more free time. Like I...

Put your degree on your resume but just leave off the graduation year.

Bam, resume gap gone.

Maybe.

Re: Programming bootcamps?

@TopHatFox: IIRC, didn't you try taking Computer Science in college and did badly in it? If that's correct I don't think a bootcamp would be a good idea for you.

Re: BeyondtheWrap's Journal

OK, I decided that I'm going to start journaling again. Things that I had left out of my entries in early 2016: In the winter, I realized that I still had a lot of really old clothes that I had worn while attending high school in the mid-00s. I attended a prep school and so I had several old dress s...

Re: Using ERE for other purposes ?

The basic idea of ERE is that by reducing your consumption you reduce the amount you work. If you spend 25% of your income, you only have to work 25% as much as someone who spends 100%. Most followers of ERE do this by having a shorter career, around 5-10 years (about 25% of a full career length), b...

Re: ERE NYC Meetup? Oct 2017~

Are the other 3 of you still on board? Unfortunately, I can only be there for a little while (about 3:30-4:00), and that's if the rest of you are still around when I get there.

Is this Saturday still good for the rest of you?

Looks like rain is in the forecast this Saturday.

When wearing long socks, should you pull them up all the way?

I have a lot of socks whose elastic has stretched out over time. Since my calves are wider than my ankles, I wonder if pulling my socks up all the way causes the elastic to wear out faster. But then, pushing them down to the ankles might also be bad because of the fabric bunching up and stretching i...

Re: ERE NYC Meetup? Oct 2017~

OK so according to the poll it looks like there is no day that will accommodate all 4 of us who showed interest. Although I responded to the poll that I couldn't do Saturdays, I would still be able to attend if I arrive later in the afternoon (around 3:30). So I'd be fine with the meetup starting ea...

The calculation is the same. After paying off the condo, whatever your annual expenses are, multiplied by 25-33.
