Re: Investments Trade Log

@Seppia: Denmark uses both mark to market as well as realization, depending on the type of security. Generally mark to market is to be avoided, except for a few special cases. I wouldn't want to move securities around from one tax domicile to the other. The headache isn't worth it. Plus, doing what ...

Re: Investments Trade Log

@thedollar: assuming you don't have any other income, it's possible to achieve an effective taxation rate of about 15-17% on the first ~100k DKK of stock-based gains in a regular taxable account (i.e. not the aktiesparekonto). The first ~60k DKK will be taxed at 27%, no way around that. But the next...

Re: FI with regular income?

@zbigi: I think even to this day, people have a tendency to throw themselves on the metaphorical grenade, at least in certain sectors. And honestly, a lot of institutions wouldn't be functional if they couldn't rely on people going above and beyond due to some (misplaced) sense of duty.

Re: FI with regular income?

I admit it's probably only natural to want to talk about what you spend most of your time on. And you guys are absolutely right that miners, plumbers, pilots, railroaders and what have you also love talking about work outside of work... It's a whole culture I suppose. I guess I just came to the conc...

Re: FI with regular income?

In the interest of not polluting other journals, I'll keep my spite to my own journal: For a forum supposedly about life involving other stuff than work, it really does seem like talking about work is a major pastime here. What happened to just putting in your hours and then going home to have fun? ...

This, THIS, is what makes ERE/FIRE worth the while. Enough with the humiliations, degradations, endless slights big and small. Fuck your boss, fuck the job.

Re: 3 yrs to FI: ertyu's journal

Denmark's public pension system isn't dependent on having worked, just having resided for at least 40 years between 15 and retirement age. Private pensions managed through employers are a relatively recent scheme dating back only to approximately 1990, so right now there's tons of people subsisting ...

Re: 3 yrs to FI: ertyu's journal

I love the idea of the Trash Place. Sad, romantic, quirky. As someone pointed out, maybe it's good to have someone live there, even for free. Could also result in worthwhile non-financial capital (i.e. doing good by another human) Reading the last few pages, I am dumbstruck by the insane privileges ...

Re: What is your ERE housing score?

Distance to work: 0.8 mi
Distance to groceries: 0.1 mi
Rent: 356 USD

Result: 4.46

But I guess it's actually just 3.56 if I multiply by 0 for walking to work/groceries.

Extremely impressive. Are the £142 Council Taxes the only monthly housing costs? No property taxes, homeowner's association fees or the like?

Sclass: Such a great story. I can literally visualize it. jacob: Did you seriously spend less than $100 on non-food items over an entire year? An ~8 dollar monthly "fun" budget is something to aspire to, for sure. Doing it for one month is easy enough. But for an entire year? Now that's a ...

Your second ever post! Honestly, I understand the impulse to succumb to the notion of a "calling", but the odds of actually achieving and sustaining your life's calling are rather slim. I recommend you hedge your bets and extract different kinds of meaning from the different spheres of you...

Lemur: it was exciting, exhilarating even, to read about your adventures with stocks in your journal. Did you by any chance keep a total tally to see what the yearly returns ended up being? I'm a little curious about the focus on dividend-paying ETFs in this recent purchase as well: are these advant...

Good on you for focusing on your health first. Not much fun to be feeling terrible all the time. If you are studying in the UK, I assume you are also tax liable in the UK. Have you figured out if there are any tax implications of having German investment income while being a UK resident? I ask becau...

Re: ERE or Semi-ERE past Age 65

It seems like the threat of catastrophic failure caused by healthcare costs looms large as the backdrop to this conversation. I suppose this has been one of the major nuts to crack in the US FIRE community. My future projections include socialized free-at-point-of-care medicine still existing in my ...

January 2024

As many here have pointed out, including locked pension funds doesn't make a whole lot of sense, even if it is a type of individual retirement investment account. Therefore future numbers will exclude pension fund numbers. Income: 2819 EUR Expenses: 943 EUR Savings rate: 64.53% Liquid net worth as o...
