Re: Jiimmy's Journal
Great journal, I loved reading about your through hikes. In Mexico, I found the Oaxacan coast to be my favorite area. The food, culture, and environment were very nice. Chiapas is the tropical south I hear good things about but haven’t yet visited. Enjoy your trip and travels. One thing that may hel...

Re: Dying Well
The reason for the thread is that I want peace at the end. It’s not about focusing on the dying rather than accepting it and living with that knowledge in mind so that I live a good life. @Ego Has already added perspective I hadn’t considered and extending the dying part. I realized that extending t...

Dying Well
Inspired by the 20M thread answers, how to live a good life often reflects in how we die. So how do we die well? With peace, surrounded by family and the knowing we gave our best in life. How to help aged parents die with peace? Surrounded and cared for by a cohesive yet independent family, yet we’r...

Re: PSA: 2.7% is the new 4%
M2 & M1 are different ways to measure the money supply. CPI is meant to be consumer inflation but the basket underweights goods of high quality that are hard to produce and overweights low quality goods that are easy to produce when it accounts for substitution after the fact. I don’t want to go...

Re: Lifespan
Curious how we’re on page 3 and not a single mention of stem cells, probably the best of all for reversal age. The good stuff I’ve found is 5-15k for a week of treatment depending on the intensity and dose. Seen it heal damaged body parts better than years of physical therapy. I’m not old like the n...

Re: Alcohol moderation
4 weeks without smoking. Very good decision. Was a bit of a last moment decision and then I sent off my herbs and aromatic device to another county so it's harder to access. Alcohol? Had some almond extract with alcohol in my low kcal ice cream, tasted bad. Felt drunk on eating too much bbq/fat calo...

Re: Would 20M Radically Increase Your Happiness?
Insightful thread, thank you for all the replies. My main take away is several iterations of the negative qol returns. @Jacob Did you experience the negative qol mentioned in several posts? There's also a lack of incentive to develop such skills, especially for independent folk. Hypothetically, 1M a...

Re: Vasectomy? Child-free life?
@Chenda I believe there’s now a male birth control pill. IUD seems most efficient choice with lowest health cost for women as birth control pills affect hormones and this affects many processes, including arousal and attraction tendencies in women. For men, vasalgel (reversible inhibition of sperm u...

Re: Single pair of shoes
The health problem is athletes foot. Peeling feet, dry skin, and I was my least athletic to top it off. I also had dry body skin because I needed lotion. The problem could’ve been at least partially remedied with another pair of shoes that I’d hang to dry every other day and talcum. Socks don’t go w...

I need a hug. Insert hug. I think it's a miracle I'll also one day partake in. @Ego From a Western perspective: I believe it's our genetics using as like robots to propagate themselves. There's a biological advantage to creating copies of our self that are better than us and outshine us. To creatin...

Re: Single pair of shoes
My health and social life took the largest downturn in my life during this time. I was focused on radically minimizing consumption and simplifying to the point that I refused to consume even when it'd increase my quality of life. I used no shampoo or dandruff, shaved with an electric razor that wasn...

Re: Would 20M Radically Increase Your Happiness?
@Ego Your thoughts clarify what I was overlooking. The incremental benefit of monetary value goes from large to small to negative, radically different than I expected. I hadn't considered that it turns negative. For me, this change was felt in between 1-2%wr (going from 50x to 100x annual expenses) ...

Would 20M Radically Increase Your Happiness?
At 5%, you’re getting 1M/yr without work. Stem cells for the family is all I can think of. Most importantly: the economic output of work wouldn’t compare without extreme stress. I’m trying to plan to the end of my goals and not seeing the point beyond globally diversified security. 1M is enough alre...

Re: Single pair of shoes
Very strongly agree with C40. The utility of 2-3 pairs of shoes is much greater for me. Sandal for a momentary trip out of the home. Converse knock off for gym, groceries, trip to the village, hiking, dirty environments, etc. Polished dress shoes for looking nice, which has a very high utility. This...

Re: Decentralizing FI for strategic reasons?
I think the initial strategy mentioned here is useful but not financially optimal as going all in on the highest revenue sources of income and highest return investments. It’ll take longer to reach some number but the number isn’t actually meaningful to quality of life but it will impact the attitud...

@Dave Good observations, I agree with most of them in my own experimentation. To me, this is all experimentation with a long term intention of improving health. My life has radically improved as I’ve focused on health and wealth and relationship are more fulfilling as I put more energy into them now...

Re: PSA: 2.7% is the new 4%
To be completely honest, the set and forget it swr hasn't been 4% if we account for money supply dillution as m2 rather than CPI. The trinity study didn't account for m2 growth. The best solution is equity in a business you create, lowering expenses through resilience/skills-ie-renting out 3 units i...

I second the web development. Doing some work on that now, quite easy to grasp compared to full stack coding. How’s Laos? I only passed the capital there and found it quiet compared to other cities. Seems very calming in that picture, reminds me of camping in the countryside in the other country you...

Re: Priority 1: Health
Well, yes, [most] bacteria die in boiling temperatures, but they really like, say 37C and 100% humidity, such as, for example, Florida or the human body. I stand corrected. You’re right. Heat kills bacteria, but at a temperature that would be lethal to me as well. I’ll enjoy a bit of dry sauna once...

@Salathor I’m happy to report I have stopped smoking since the 30th of December. I have also stopped using the laptop for extended periods of time if not work related for this time, so I won’t binge on any media for hours. The most is a silly ~22 minute animated show. I’m intending to spend this yea...
