Re: Investments Trade Log
I'm also a bit worried that AI generated content is going to damage information availability online to a very large extent. We have already experienced a lot of degradation of the quality of online material due to optimizations for profit. AI will accelerate that.

Re: Quail Haven, an ERE Mountain Enclave
I sent you a PM. I'd be interested to come by the next time I'm back in the US. There's a good chance I'll travel by motorcycle again. I'm looking at your projects on your website and Youtube and seeing that we'd probably have a lot to talk about. And perhaps I'd enjoy lending a hand if you have som...

Re: Social Skills + Social Capital Challenge & Resource Collection Thread
Thanks @TheAnimal. I have also read that book before. Perhaps when I was looking through my books I assumed that one was not the one I was thinking of. But perhaps it is. I will find it and start reading it again. I also just remembered a book I found interesting about 10 years ago. It's called &quo...

Re: V02 Max Challenge
Woha, those are impressive numbers, congrats. :).... Do you have a fitted bike? At those distances one quickly gets injured even with small imbalances. Thank you. Yes my bike fits me well. I did have a session with a pro bike fitter when I was racing over 10 years ago. But the small changes he made...

Re: V02 Max Challenge
Any idea what your functional threshold is in Troy Jacobson terms? (It's something like a 20 minute test right around the lactic point). Mine was 3.7W/kg about a decade ago (300W @ 81kg). No way I could have held that for hours though. Yours must be north of 4-5W/kg? Also curious, what's your max s...

Re: V02 Max Challenge
So I completed the 160km (100 mile) 4 hour ride. Wheewwww. Did it in 3:54 (riding time) at an average speed of 41.0 kph (25.5 mph). Average power was about 220 watts which is 3.5 watts/kg. Did it alone, on a normal road bike, on one road doing out/back loops. It was fun to do but I definitely won't ...

Re: V02 Max Challenge
oooh man that sounds pretty rough. Wishing you a good recovery. The feet are so important. Don't be lazy to do what you need to take care of them, and man, don't rush into running -- My brother was running a fair amount over recent years. I tried to convince him to shift to bicycling or swimming or ...

Re: V02 Max Challenge
Update: - My training is going well. I improved more than expected the last 2 months. I'll share some power numbers again but they're a bit delayed because 1 - I got a powermeter but it gives an inaccurate (but fairly precise) reading. So I've been figuring that out over the last two months... and 2...

Re: How is the FIRE movement doing?
I retired at 34. Definitely could have gotten my stuff together sooner and retired around 30. On the forum yeah I think there are some that retired near 30 years old. Perhaps @Akratic did? and others I forget. @MikeBos is one who was on the forum some though not a frequent member (he had a blog call...

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)
For example, is it possible to emphathicaly fire people from their job? Of course it is. I had an assistant once. He was the only assistant I was going to get. But also there was the expectation in roles like his that he should be developing quickly to be able to be a good manager. But he lacked so...

Re: hmm.. which car?
Best car is Honda Fit. Cheap. Efficient. Reliable. Very good cargo capacity. Great for social life. (if you're in an area with small roads like Japan, or slow speeds, or high import tax, other options would be better) When I had a rich friend, and hung out with him and his friends. Nobody gave one f...

Re: Star*Bucks ERE Journal
I watched a travel video in Vietnam were a girl got herself a pair of prescription glasses for $19 optician appointment included lol She said she got the upgraded frames otherwise it would have only been $10. When I get to SE Asia I’m going to buy a few back up prescription glasses. I went with my ...

Re: What would you eat if you couldn’t taste anything?
In your situation I think texture becomes much more important than usual. As others noted there are some things I don't like the taste of that I might eat more of if I couldn't taste it. (Kale.. some fermented or perhaps pickled things.. various fruits and vegetables like bittermelon (god it's horri...

Re: In Praise of Doing Nothing
I'm currently taking two months of bicycling and otherwise doing almost 'nothing'. That means sometimes riding for a large portion of the day. And going for coffee. Reading. Playing old videogames. A short nap most days. And some bits of life organization. I almost think you can't really 'do nothing...

Xin chào bạn mới. Mình chúc bạn trở nên giàu sớm. Bạn là người Việt hay người nước ngoài? Mình đến từ nước Mỹ và sống ở Việt Nam. Hello. It's only risky if you're making significant mistakes. If you want, you can make that problem go away. There are various ways to identify and prevent over-training. If you haven't read it yet, Joel Friel's book(s) have decent information. I read it in his "Cyclist's training bible" book bu...

Re: V02 Max Challenge
Ahh. I don't think I've had any overtraining issues (not overall CNS ones... I have messed up a tendon very gradually over many years.) I Also don't do extremely long durations (nothing significantly longer/harder than I'm already used to, by increasing volume and intensity gradually). And, I'll not...

Huh. Over my years of sometimes training a lot and sometimes not at all,... my resistance to getting sick has seemed linearly linked (or even exponentially linked) to my fitness level. (The higher my fitness, the less I get sick)

If they resist, it's likely the standard situation of you just needing to keep asking about it to show them that you aren't going to give up/forget/let it slide.
