Re: Quitting Alcohol Pros and Cons

It depends on the culture you are immersed in. for some cultures it is a requirement for extracting the full experience. People say this... but.. is it really? How so? When I've been around people drinking (particularly in a social gathering or party type atmosphere) I may have one drink. It could ...

Re: Get Paid $10,000 to Move to Tulsa or Vermont

I find it interesting that folks keep posting these (the notices and articles about getting a small amount of money (or a free lot of land) if you move to some city that isn't so popular at the moment. Because... the money is a small amount.. and no-one here is pulling the trigger on any of those of...

Re: Something From Nothing Log

The whole idea of cutting a tree off at the trunk and bringing it indoors for a month to dry and die and then throw it in the trash is just F#*king crazy. And making/buying a fake tree to pretend you're doing that is maybe even crazier. Then there are folks who buy perfectly good food from a farm (p...

Re: Best storage containers for bulk dry goods?

Personally I prefer using glass jars. There are sizes up to half gallon easily available (and maybe larger). They are glass rather than plastic (nothing to leech, hopefully).. you can see the contents.. they look cool... and they can be used for other purposes like cooking the contents. Definitely n...

Re: Web of goals examples

I'm not sure exactly how Jacob words things in the books, but here is some advice: Consider which things on your list are goals, which are strategies, and which are tactics. These could be titled in other ways such as values or results... processes or systems... actions, steps, habits, etc. It is im...

Re: Method to minimize yard work

I know it's not the kind of help the thread is discussing but I'll add another type of strategy: enjoy doing the work. - Use your yard work as time for mindfulness and mental decompression - a time to think about nothing, a time to enjoy your land rather than battle it with combustion-engine machine...

I would've thought the DNC learned to clean up their act after the 2016 election... But it seems like they're going to blow it again.

Re: "swallowing" blackpill, overcoming it; moving forward; pseudoscience and woo-woo stuff

Dude... it sounds like you were really being a dick at that seminar or class or whatever. You're probably lucky that all they did was tell you to shut up and that they didn't kick you out entirely. I'll re-write something I mentioned above - if you want to make friends - focus on being INTERESTED, n...

Deserts are nice. My favorites are Sonoran and Great Basin. I haven't really been to Chihuahuan though so I don't know what that one's like

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus

I'm in Vietnam and now after seeing you guys tell @slowtraveler to flee, I'm wondering if I should be considering that. I don't get too worked up about things like this and have't been following all that closely. What I'd really hate is to get this, survive it, and end up with some big life-lone sid...

Word on the street (and internet) is this started from people eating bats. I haven't and don't want to look into this more, but has anyone else heard this? Or heard that it's wrong? ------ [below is probably not relevant to this thread] ------ I looked up a list of animals sold - just in that wet ma...

Can't correct it with him, but if you have other kids in the pipeline make sure they are working jobs in their chosen career path while in school. Even unpaid internships - while it seems in the short term aren't 'worth it' - may be...

Who else carries around a wallet with cash, prepaid credit cards with no names, and no ID but someone who is up to no good?

I suppose that close to Mexico there are many folks flying under the radar of the US gov'. But, do they carry a wallet like that?

Thanks guys. @Dream of Freedom - I'll take a look at those. The book I'm reading places a lot of emphasis on internal management and a significant amount of insider ownership. I have done decently well with REITS so far, selecting sectors that I think will do well. I've avoided Malls entirely and on...

Re: [ranty] Throwing the Family a Bone a Questionable Use of Time

It seems alien to me that parents would go this far - trying to control details of their adult children's lives and then throwing tantrums about it and damaging their relationships. I've had it lucky in this regard. In the first place, my parents seem to let my siblings and I make our own choices. T...

Re: Mens Fashion

I did want to note something related to the Levi's jeans: even for the same style # (like 541), different washes (colors) of that style number can and do fit slightly different. Sometimes the difference is significant. (if ordering online, I think returns and exchanges work easily for Levis'. An eav...

Ok man…. 1 - Remember when we were talking 2-3 years ago, and I gave you a suggestion? Remember what that was? Did you do it? Did you try? How had it been going? (The suggestion was to make some platonic female friends - to make friend with women who you are interested in for reasons other than phys...
