Re: Cat City

@GP I agree with not wanting to do the touristy thing. Some of my best travel experiences were from going out on my own and just seeing what is out there. Hearing, smelling, seeing, listening, trying to understand what it is like for the people, plants, animals who live there and have lived there be...

Re: Cat City

Are the state run universities in Russia not recognised internationally? Are you still living in New Zealand? I'm in awe of people who move overseas for work and study. It seems like such a massive leap! I am interested in working abroad myself, although it's hard to imagine having better pay or co...

Re: Cat City

Hey! Welcome to the forum, I look forward to reading your journal. I studied in New Zealand, so was also "blessed" with a much smaller student loan compared to the US. Paying that off was my first conscious FIRE/ER undertaking. "Blessed" is in quotation marks as my alternative wa...

Re: not sure but i'll try Journal

Time for some updates. I've been reading Atomic Habits by James Clear over the last few weeks - good book. Inspired me to consciously track habits I want to create. One of the graphs at the beginning of the book got burnt into my memory: the one which essentially demonstrates "compounding inter...

Re: not sure but i'll try Journal

Insulation project done. My bad, turned out the pipes in question were not actually outside. Our kitchen sink is on the outside wall and the hole through which the pipe came in had a significant crack. So we got some foam sealant, a roll of reflective and plastic painter's drop cloth ($20 all up). ...

Re: not sure but i'll try Journal

Thanks, @AH!
I'll look into it. May be good for wrapping around outdoor pipes, too, - woke up this morning to no cold water in the kitchen.
Gotta love cheaply built rental units :?

I don't care how we look, and my husband may get a kick out of Faraday cage :)

Re: Using Plastic Wrap and Glue Sticks to insulate Windows

Glad I stumbled upon this - thinking through insulating my large sliding door + window this weekend!

One tip I heard re: double sided tape damaging window frames. Apply painters tape first, then stick double sided tape to it. Will be easier to remove without a sign

Re: Jiimmy's Charts

I love pizza!!!
Cheap and yummy!

Great pics by the way :)

I found some tips on kneading the dough here: https://www.craftsy.com/class/perfect-pizza-at-home/
Turns out you don't need to knead as much, just a few times with 5-min gaps in between.
Last time I checked the link was free to watch.

Re: not sure but i'll try Journal

that's a really good idea, @AH, I'll try to run it down to the throttled amount. Not sure what that is, as we have a plan with a fam. member, but I can def. monitor usage from my phone

I suspect I won't be posting so frequently in the future, but since I started working on my habits, I feel it's important to take stock and adjust frequently. Re: Western Red Cedar's Journal

Wholeheartedly agree on the topic of "nuking" accounts - I've learned much and was inspired by some of the older ones. It's a pity a few of the "oldies" decided to delete all of their posts completely. I respect the decision, although it makes me think twice about how much PII (p...

@Jimmy,

Thanks for the encouragement!

Your charts are fascinating, by the way, it's cool that you are able and willing to track that part of your life in so much detail!

not sure but i'll try Journal

Hi there! My first post, so pls don't judge if something don't look right. I was inspired by the Frugalchicos' journal and a few others, so want to try as well. Why: I'm the kind of person who needs to work towards goals or deadlines. Without a financial goal, I tend to spend $ on crap. As a woman, ...
