Re: Resources on sales

The companies I worked for all had sales support staff who would accompany sales people on visits and answer the technical questions. I've been in that role myself in the past. The sales person was there to open the door and establish relationships, often they would be talking to management further ...

Re: e reader as a smartphone

If you have mobile data enabled then there will be a constant trickle of data going to and from the phone (notifications, find my, etc). Just turning this off may help without disabling the phone part.

Assuming that demand for trips will not change, there will be the same amount of congestion.
No, there will be more because an empty car has to drive to you before your journey.

If society really wanted autonomous vehicles then the best way of getting them would be to constrain the environment they operate in. Sort of like Heathrow Terminal 5 on steroids.

Both DW and I dislike the wedding industry. DW felt the pressures and expectation to do everything according to the template wedding. Meanwhile, I don't like that everything is marketed as personalised (you choose the music, flowers, rings, etc.) but it's not really personalised if we are all ...

One thing you can do in the US is hand the keys to your house back to the bank. We don't have that in the UK, if your house depreciates then you are liable for the difference (as I experienced after I bought my first place).

Who is close to ramping up the production of thousands of autonomous vehicles. Please. Name them.
I doubt Tesla is, year after year we have had lies about how capable their self driving technology is.

People are not pleased about the fact that rich people don't have to work like everybody else, but they're much more disgruntled that NEETs not only not work, but "leech off" people who do work.
It takes quite a lot of propaganda to make people hate the less well off.

I often think those ceramic cartridges are more trouble than they are worth, they don't seem to last any longer than traditional washers. It's usually the washer at the end of the cartridge (red bit in your second picture) that fails but good luck buying just that as it usually has an insert in it ...

It seems to me that many/most ERE folk could do better investing in their own small businesses or ventures.

Personally I never wanted all my eggs in that one risky basket. Also small businesses are illiquid, they are difficult to sell. For me the business was an alternative to a traditional job ...

3) OTOH, it is easy for me to select my top values from a large list of possible values. As usual when performing this exercise, I find myself having thoughts such as "Are there really humans who would select Conformity as one of their top values?"

Human nature seems to get the better of many ...

An agency makes it much easier. So maybe we need more matchmaking services.
Agencies don’t really have your interests at heart. The route to a good job is via someone you know. It’s probably the same for dating.

Re: What do you think the USA would look like in 20 years?

Suffice it to say, I am probably much more pessimistic in my outlook than those who have posted above. Why? Probably because I think 1) the statistical likelihood of at least one incredibly disruptive vertical event/situation is high for the US, and 2) I think a lot more nodes in the US and global ...

According to most recent S.S. actuarial tables, life expectancy for a U.S. male who has already attained age 60 is 80.41.
It's 84 in the UK. My understanding is the figures are quite dire in the US even for the wealthy.

Re: Sources of financial news and opinions

I read the Economist as well although not every week as it's quite expensive. I feel the need to read all of it to get my moneys worth which takes two or three weeks.

The financial press tends to be more factual although I wouldn't say they are bias free. They all lean towards economic liberalism.
