Re: Doing Taxes with TurboTax - Mac mini
Easy solution. You should be able to switch entirely to the online version of turbotax and skip all this installation mismatch nonsense.

Re: Recreational equipment lending library
I also think ReSource in Boulder https://tools.resourcecentral.org/ might also be a decent local-ish nonprofit model (obviously they are a tool library, not outdoor gear) and they would at minimum probably be able to give you some numbers on compensating employees / cost modelling for maintenance an...

Re: Recreational equipment lending library
Many Bouldering gyms already do this (albeit at a small cost to gym members for the upkeep costs), where you can pay $6 or something to rent out a crash pad for the day or something. It is not considered a money generator, and is something i think the places break even on at best (i.e. labor cost is...

Re: Fixit Log
Had a toilet leak earlier this week. I installed an access panel underneath the toilet / shower area (since their pipes are 1ft apart and the only major leakage point in my house) last time I had a leak, and it is finished concrete flooring underneath, so no water damage (luckily). Problem was a sim...

Re: Whole-Food Plant-Based Diet (Salt Oil Sugar free) as an example of emergent movement design
@bankai yeah my oil usage is generally just in cooking, and since I start most of my cooking with onion + garlic + other stuff, it’s basically impossible to avoid using the oil. Other than that, it makes its way into some sauces for me. Still eat large amounts of my fats as cashews turned into a sau...

Re: Whole-Food Plant-Based Diet (Salt Oil Sugar free) as an example of emergent movement design
I've eaten this way (for about a month before quitting, easy change since I'm already plant based and eat very few processed foods other than some oils and pasta), and find myself very skeptical of its benefits. For one, as mentioned already its quite low in energy. For myself, lack of fats in this ...

Re: Part-time long term or full-time short term
I find the constant asks to relocate if you live in a MCOL - HCOL area unfair (I understand from a monetary perspective obviously), but I think as @7wb5 argued in another thread, I don’t think it is fair to be told to relocate from where your family or friends are if an area is expensive or has gott...

I find myself sitting in the same boat (FT income >> income needed, but find the work less pleasant); and I agree with Rube; you may be more likely (now with a paid off house, small bills, etc) to be able to switch to a job you want, and end up much happier / fulfilled from the work, while still bei...

Re: Mens Fashion
I’m gonna talk about an edge case (well, maybe not edge case if you are anything like a normal American). I notice that you only chose guys with smaller legs in describing your first fashion route. If you are a more average American size now, or are a bit bigger but working on getting more fit, then...

Welcome! How hard was immigrating to New Zealand? Is Data Science one of those skills they have on the “come live here” list for adding to their industry so you get the working visa very quickly? Secondarily, what’s the land like that you are living on? Big garden, lots of nature l? Interested to se...

Re: Spending higher end to force less usage/lower cost
My friend is really into tea and orders a lot of high-end stuff through tea import clubs to try a variety without being stuck with a high-end product he does not like. At the same time he has been cultivating a pretty good tea ceremony so his high-end consumption is tied to a meditative ritual for ...

Re: Movement
My feet and legs have a long way to go. I cannot walk as fast or as far wearing the Prios. It takes about an hour for serious fatigue to set in. Also, now that I have this context, going back into my old shoes sucks. The casting of my foot feels obvious and uncomfortable. It is a change that will t...

Re: Spending higher end to force less usage/lower cost
I’m not sure I understand the logic of this. Do you just want to blow through your allocated budget more quickly for this good, and then assume your budgeting will (that wants to keep your budget items inline) exceeds your want to use the substance (on which I think you are associating happiness and...

Re: Movement
Agreed. It is 100% easier to just “workout” and gauge work done than it is to “have an active lifestyle” which is a almost a nonstarter when it comes to measuring progress and getting massively stronger, etc. I personally feel like this “active lifestyle” thing being described in this book either do...

I don’t have the full reference, but going by the only reference I can find (an article on art of manliness), it looks like it’s a bunch of balancing work on a 2x4. If that’s the case, I’ve done everything outlined in that article on circular rails and much further (culminating in doing a bunch tech...

Re: Is Software Development/ Programming Oversaturated?
The highest salaries are paid by companies which don't need venture capital at all, but are instead hugely profitable: Google, Facebook, Apple etc. If we companies like that, the rest of the market in the US is mostly paying in the $130-$200k range for senior SEs, which is not that much more than w...

Re: Is Software Development/ Programming Oversaturated?
Poland and UK are both excessively cheap (in terms of salary for a SE); any US company wanting to outsource to other countries will look at both of them... From this implication, I would imagine Poland could quadruple or quintuple its current number of software engineers, and the demand would still ...

Re: Is Software Development/ Programming Oversaturated?
@guitarplayer , I’m not certain that anyone will care about latex, or anything like that. Open source projects are cool to contribute to, but not the key to landing jobs. The key to getting the first job (in terms of the interview) is always gonna be algorithm knowledge and ability to actually solve...

Do you guys believe that detached homes are the future? In the future, resource-constrained world, how can they beat the effectiveness of apartment buildings? I know that homes are cool for a variety of emotional reasons (and also more comfortable than apartments), but I just can't see them as the ...
