Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

Looking back on it, living out of the office was definitely worth it. Running: I *finally* ran the marathon Jan 2023 and smashed all my goals, completing it around 4:22! It was 36 degrees Fahrenheit, and I had to shovel part of the track. Most of the 16 weeks of training were through Sep-Dec so the ...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

You make good points. For me personally, my primary goal is to increase my QOL and longevity -- I don't care *too* much about how I look. That said, I'm still a beginner, but I would imagine the long-term issues you allude to would be due to, e.g., lifting too heavy, poor form, etc. The movements on...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

@SVB -- thank you. Yes, it is like that in Ann Arbor, the local college town back home. It is hard to believe that rental properties there get a similar price to here (southern california). To me, this seems absurd. After a few months of sporadic lifting, I have finally committed to a 12-week progra...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

@7 Didn't expect that response, but that is cool! To me, the band exudes confidence; so I guess I can understand being so confident you think you can beat craps lol @fib Presumably you are not currently paying rent, which is by far the biggest 'pro' of living out of the office. In my case, I ended u...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

It's June! Are you done with grad school? What's next for the living situation? You have a good memory! Makes me happy to see your comment, as I have been planning on an update. My defense was June 1st -- it went much better than expected. I would give myself an ~8.5/10; the committee was impressed...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

I think for the last decade or so I have been fascinated with the question of "how low can I get my cost of living"? My reasoning is that if I can approximate that state of living cognitively, I have a kind of safety-net because I know the lower bound/threshold of what I need to have an ac...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

Teenage rant :-D hehe Eventually, I will organize the thoughts/feelings in my mind/body. Recently they have included an overwhelming sense of boredom, largely with 'society', and more particularly with those around me. And also a lot of (controllable) anger, which I perceive as good/useful. I am no...

@Slevin
Thanks for that information, I plan to incorporate R&B more into my diet :-)
I don't understand people who do not like carbs (unless you have carb intolerance). The same goes for people who are averse to 'fats'.

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

@ RG -- yes, for some reason, it seems the first 1-2 miles of any run are painful. The highs and lows are what make it fun :-) @ether yes, probably eventually. I don't have the time/knowledge to do that yet. To be clear, I do not pay rent for my current living situation, as I am 'squatting'. Not muc...

January 2022 Update: Fitness/Health: Working a new job really is difficult to eat well. Especially where I work the place is huge and not as convenient as my other job. I’ve been eating out each day and it has been very expensive. I plan to buy a backpack & a small lunchbox to go into the backp...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

It seems that most times I get high, I go for a walk or dance. It's crazy to me, I am in control of this body! Well, some of it. It's all so crazy.

Re: Jupiter's Universe

Thank you. For reasons that aren't entirely clear to me, I enjoy it. In addition, I find running therapeutic and a great tool for self-exploration. Also, it's probably the cheapest exercise, which lends itself nicely to ERE. edit: just read your intro and saw that you like running too -- nice. Still...

Re: Jupiter's Universe

I feel like all those years, I have focused on developing brain flexibility for learning, improvising and creating. Maybe it is time to do some strength training? I would recommend strength training. In my experience, I was frail/sickly all of my life, suffered from chronic pain partly due to not m...

Re: mathiverse's journal

I keep my food expenses low by using extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in basically all of my meals. It's a great source of good fats, affordable, and tastes good. The price to calorie ratio is very good. Some sourdough bread and a bowl of EVOO with your preferred seasonings (e.g. rosemary, thyme, basil...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

I have been quite busy lately so not much update. I have until June to graduate, which should not be *too* much of a problem. Lately I have been hyper-focused on my three passions: science, running, and poker, with running taking the lions share of my interest. Lately, I was thinking of the similari...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

@Bonde Never been better. And you? In general, I don't like to celebrate holidays. I didn't do anything special, but I had a good time. Went for some good runs on the trails, enjoyed my vices, etc. What a strange coincidence lol. Yeah a setup like that would work real nice. In my experience, the har...

Re: living out of my office in pursuit of ERE

Yeah, I have had that happen as well. In my case, I believe it was an avoidance behavior -- most of my behaviors were in some way. Now I feel I have a much healthier relationship with my work, and I enjoy it more than ever. I have a lot of hobbies that keep me occupied. Actually, I have *too* many h...

Re: AE's Journal Round 5 - Finding Freedom To

I experienced DPDR the first time while in an uncomfortable setting, and *way* too stoned. I had no idea what was going on; it wasn't until I went to therapy nearly 8 years later for different reasons that I learned what actually happened. I was absolutely terrified of cannabis for nearly a decade -...
