My favorite is curmudgeonly, but crotchety, crabby, cranky or cantankerous aren't bad either. I don't know how many more three letter acronyms the forum can handle

I stumbled on Jared Henderson's YouTube content a couple months ago. He has a PhD in philosophy, realized becoming a professor wasn't in the cards, spent a couple years in tech, and now makes videos full time.

Re: Anticonsumerism vs frugality
In terms of the personal responsibility component, I think it is worth considering how much control the average person has when confronted with clever psychological manipulation in the form of modern marketing that hones in on their fears, anxieties, hopes, and other emotions. I think of it in terms ...

Re: Western Red Cedar's Journal
About that noodle shop, your description reminds me of a lovely family-run place in Luang Prabang, mostly favored by locals (who tend to have dinner earlier, like 4-5 pm). It's on the main road leading to the night market. Could it be the same place?!
Small world. Sounds like it could certainly ...

I'll be arriving in Chiang Mai on December 7th. We have a monthly rental and will be hanging out with @2b1s who also gets in on the 7th. Let me know if you are available on December 8th or after and I can start a separate thread for a meetup in case anyone else is able to join.

@ego - Let me know if you plan to spend any time in the north in December. DW and I have a monthly rental in Chiang Mai lined up and plan to meet up with another forum member and their partner. Maybe a small ERE meetup is in order?

Most of the Republic of Tea options are excellent in my experience. It is more expensive, but worth it when considering they are often 40-50 teabags. Their Get Happy brand is a regular in our cupboards.

Re: Western Red Cedar's Journal
I'm back in the developing world. Enjoying a change of pace in Laos. I've been spending multiple hours in the early morning and evenings walking through town, enjoying the architecture, the lights of the city, the natural environment, and the local temples. Quite the contrast from the infrastructure ...

I probably deviate from a lot of peppers and best practices when it comes to water storage and access in urban settings. I have a high quality water filter for backpacking that has the ability to purify water ...

@delay - I'm glad you enjoyed it. There are loads of people around in the evenings. We stayed near one of the busy night markets in Kaohsiung, so there were thousands of people and a few hundred vendors out in front of our apartment every night. Near the waterfront, on busy nights there were tens of ...

The point is, these are the kind of albums where you just put the thing on and listen to the whole thing through rather than pick and choose songs.
I've got eclectic musical tastes, so I'm open to just about any genre.
Your post sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole in terms of thinking this ...

Re: Embracing Solitude: INTJ's Journey Towards Retirement
I’m recognising my limitations of bluffing, and wondering if ERE is just a fantasy given the hand I’ve got, and my ability to play.
Keep in mind that FIRE and extremely early retirement aren't the same as ERE. Building and maintaining a life that you are content with while you are working is ...

Good luck managing the burnout. Keep in mind that, in your financial position, you actually have a lot of options. Try to prioritize whatever is best for your long-term health.

Sorry to hear about the job, but it sounds like you are handling it in stride. I think the ERE boards need more examples of a meandering path rather than simply cranking away at high-income jobs and calling it quits. I love to read statements like this:
