Re: ERE Encampment, March 22 - 24, 2024

I couldn't make it work with my work days off and travel plans, so I am sadly out. EREFest is the only thing that I have in the "ERE meetup budget" for this year.

Re: EREfest Quail Haven, September 2024

Sorry, I made a mistake… for 4 core days, what makes sense would be Saturday + Sunday + ((Thursday + Friday) OR (Monday + Tuesday))

Re: EREfest Quail Haven, September 2024

Given the public transport schedule (Kern Transit - won't mention the exact days/bus number to prevent doxxing), what works best depends on how many core days there will be: 2 days -> Saturday + Sunday 3-4 days -> Saturday + Sunday + Monday and/or Friday (and as you said, Friday would probably be be...

Re: EREfest Quail Haven, September 2024

Just wanted to say that if the core days end up being extended to 5-7 days, for us working folk, it makes sense to reserve a whole week so that we can come, for example, on Saturday, and leave the next Sunday, so that we can only take 5 days off. If it doesn't get stretched out, then having the core...

Re: Crusader's Journal

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I am cautiously optimistic about the new year! AH, your EREfest, in particular, was a great catalyst to me getting my spending habits in order (it served as a checkpoint and motivator), so thank you for that (and thanks to everyone who came... lots of inspiring p...

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)

Thank you very much for your suggestions! I am allergic to anything "spiritual", so OSA doesn't seem like a good fit for me. They have this in their FAQ: Q: Do I have to believe in a higher power to benefit from this course? A: Yes. This course refers only to “the Divine,” and makes no as...

Re: ERE Skillathon 2024

People who have storytelling as one of your skills, what is your motivation for pursuing this? What does that involve and how do you plan to approach it? I frequent an amateur storytelling meetup, and it has been on my list for a long time to write a short story about a particular topic that I thin...

Re: ERE Skillathon 2024

I've narrowed down the skills I want to work on to these 12 topics: - cooking - sewing and decluttering/organizing my wardrobe - painting my house - guitar - singing - learning Hungarian - becoming a DJ at dance socials - dating - brewing alcohol and bread - learning about fashion (and possibly buyi...

Re: Crusader's Journal

Well, it is time for my end-of-year reflection. This has been one of the best years in my life! Things finally started working out for me and I am slowly starting to become the person that I want to be. Here are some of my accomplishments, in no particular order: - I feel like I have "solved&qu...

Re: Hello From Canada (East/West and North)

Hello back from Canada! I am also interested in how you manage to rent the rooms to live there. Is this short term accommodation (subletting) or some other arrangement? (just curious, no need to answer)

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)

I do think the description from OutOfTheBlue is a nice way to summarize it. It is a paradigm shift of how you approach communication. I've been trying to incorporate more NVC concepts into my life, and the problem that I keep running into is that I have difficulty opening up myself to others. The ba...

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)

@Jean Yes, there is a difference, but mostly on the side of the person making the request. Let's say that I want to be in a monogamous relationship, and I KNOW that a non-monogamous relationship is a dealbreaker for me. I could be in touch with my feelings and needs and understand exactly why this i...

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)

The fact that "value" has 2 different meanings is confusing me when reading the responses, i.e.: 1) Usefulness of something. 2) A person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life. When I mentioned "value" in my earlier post, I meant defini...

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)

If the other enacting the behavior you prefer is not of "value" unless they fully agree, empathize, inhabit your perspective, emotional state, and preferences, etc. then you are likely seeking psychological "validation" rather than "value", where "acceptance"...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

I was going to say that I was very happy with work... but now my highest manager has suddenly started a campaign that we HAVE to be at the office. For what it's worth, where I work, the upper management has gone back and forth on how strict they are with going back to the office. It is possible tha...

Re: Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (Discussion + Book Club Meeting)

I think we had a constructive meeting and I am grateful for everyone's insights. I am convinced that NVC is a really useful tool. However, once everyone understands everyone's needs and empathetically feel each other, I think that it is possible that the conclusion is that the two people are incompa...

For example, is it possible to emphathicaly fire people from their job?
Do you really can feel suffering of other person?
