Now that there is an egg, it will be really hard to get rid of the pigeon. They carry all sorts of diseases, not least of which are bed bugs, and you don't want to get bed bugs. If it was up to me, I would get rid of the whole nest ASAP.

February 2021 - $2162 (month 5/60)
The best month so far. Room for improvement for next month:
-> ALL food bought in bulk at Costco
-> finish the damn Coursera courses so that I don't pay for them any more
-> no alcohol purchases

I have to say, I am actually jealous that you have time to work on something like this, even if it looks scary. I'll be egging you on.

I used to have a bad battery in my car and something similar to this thing saved me so many times: https://www.amazon.com/NEXPOW-Battery-Starter-21800mAh-Charge/dp/B07T9S3Q5N/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=jump+starter+battery+pack+usb&qid=1614299486&sr=8-1 I just kept it in my glovebox an...

Re: Investing, Finance and Economics 2021 Study Group
Exactly. What you are describing is something that I would eventually like to understand, but at the moment, it is rocket science to me. I fully understand that stock valuation is a whole other can of worms compared to portfolio management. But as a first step, I wanted to simply know where to put ...

Re: Investments Trade Log
When the whole Gamestop thing was happening, I kept thinking... why can't I short it when it's high, because there was no way it was going to keep being that high... and indeed, it fell from $350 to $50 in a week. I wish that I had a margin account to be able to short sell it myself at this point, b...

Re: Crusader's Journal
January 2021 - $2525 (month 4/60) Finally, I had a relatively good month. In there is a purchase of a (second hand) digital piano that cost $450 (when/if I sell it, I will be able to get close to the same money back). Also, in there, there are some stupid Coursera fees for the course I am still sub...

I cannot believe what I am seeing. Out of curiosity, how much of the renovations are you planning to do yourself vs. hiring others? To me it looks like would almost be better to knock the whole place down and start from scratch.

Re: Investing, Finance and Economics 2021 Study Group
Hi guys, OP here. Well, in my usual fashion, I have been procrastinating with my own project. I started reading the book, but found it very broad. And, also, other things happened that made me lose interest in the book: -> I went to a local (virtual) meetup on stock valuation. We evaluated some stoc...

Re: An ERE dating site
@Alphtaville mistrustful? I have no idea what you are on about. I just think that believers are stupid (in this realm... compartmentalization is a thing, so they might be smart in other domains) and wrong and to me, saying "there are many paths to truths" is condescending. This is how you ...

Re: An ERE dating site
@Jacob: I've read that post while lurking the forum at least 2 times. I know (weiss) what you mean, but I don't know (kenn) how to actually do it. My relationships were very much focused on "I" in the past, and more specifically how can "I" enrich my experience. Now when I don't ...

Re: An ERE dating site
I believe what you were talking about is https://forum.earlyretirementextreme.com/viewtopic.php?p=184797#p184797 I can see the motivation for doing that, and I kind of behave myself in a similar manner when it comes to work and even friends. But, all these issues you've listed: philosophy, religion,...

Re: An ERE dating site
Yup! Which is why my problem is even more complicated than it appears. I am closed minded and judgemental. But no matter how hard I tried to change that, I couldn't, for as long as I can remember and have been looking for a mate (the last 20 years, more than half my life).

Re: An ERE dating site
I totally understand what you are trying to say. Not really sure what to say that I haven't already said. We can agree to disagree. Jacob, that book looks interesting, although I am not sure how it relates, if it was directed to me. I've thought very hard about why I am such a strong atheist, and I...

Re: An ERE dating site
I'm pointing out that you have chosen to not respect the path most people travel, and that this choice limits you in more ways than you may be aware of. If I had a dollar every time I heard this... I'd be FIRE by now! Yes, you nailed it. I don't think that people who are non-atheists are just diffe...

Re: An ERE dating site
The certainty you show in the field of religion thus seems to me the certainty one who has NOT explored other possibilities. But I have no reason or desire to explore other possibilities. I am quite happy with my beliefs. Once upon a time, I couldn't understand how others don't agree with me, and I...

Re: An ERE dating site
The God I believe in is probably not the God you don't believe in. Well, this is possible. I looked up Advaita Vedanta, and to me it just looks like life philosophy influenced by some ancient texts. Nor do I have a problem with Sam Harris' version of spirituality. And I am willing to acknowledge th...

Fair enough. I wouldn't really use the word "faith", but I agree.
