Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

Sooo.. I went to my house and started to empty the stuff that is not furniture. Except I did take DD's old mattress to the dumpster (it was in a bad condition and couldn't be given away). I discovered some moths and had a bunch of pheromone traps put in, and I bagged up all textiles, whether they ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

I have same thoughts as others - clutter is like noise that enters my brain through my eyes! And it screams loudly. It drains my energy and concentration.
Also, we can live very comfortably and spaciously in a small one bedroom apartment with DD as we don't have a ton of stuff. And moving again won ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

Yeah, getting a bit harder. I seem to have a strangely hard time throwing away my old paint tubes that were expensive, and the tops are dried stuck. I managed to get some of them open by running hot water over them. So I may try again to get the last ones open, and if not I'll toss them. The paint ...

Re: Forum challenge: Buy Nothing Year

I've been doing pretty well.

-My only pair of sweatpants were pitiful, with holes and stains and they were too big at the waist.. threw them out and bought a new pair of sweatpants, as a legit replacement
-At the same time with the sweatpants, DD needed a replacement for one falling apart -hoodie ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

Weep, I think I accidentally deleted part of my list! But the bags with the decluttered items are still in my car, so I can take a look..
There is no way I'll make it to the end of the year, but if I get to about 500 items (which would be 30 weeks so the same amount as the original one month ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

@Kipling - yes, it is always nice when I go through the hassle of selling something and make some money back. I've done really well with many items, selling them for what I originally paid for, or at least about 90%. Of course many only sell for a small fraction and I've given away a lot too.

I'm ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

Week 16:

1 Annoyingly small watering can (sold for 30 e)
1 Cutting board
1 Knife holder block (have magnetic strip here which I prefer to use, don't like having stuff on the counter)
1 Tea towel
5 Pieces of fabric
1 Roll of soft elastic (used to use this for DD’s leggings that I made when she was ...

Re: Fly baby, fly!

I guess I didn't post about our new place yet.
So we moved last weekend. Our new home is 560 square feet (52 m2), one bedroom, living room where I also sleep, kitchen that fits a table, small bathroom that fits a washing machine, tiny walk-in-closet and a tiny patio. So first floor. The house is ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

So I have put nearly everything in their places at our new home.
I actually was able to cull an embarrassing 75 more things. That's three Ikea bags of stuff. And there is still at least some more that I haven't counted... I will put everything in my car except a few items I'm going to try to sell. I ...

Re: Forum challenge: Buy Nothing Year

I'm fully aware that I've used shopping as a coping mechanism and a form of escapism from traumatic and extremely difficult situations and depressed mood. But also I guess for a kind of fantasy life when I was feeling optimistic about the future.

I've actually been on a non-official no-buy for a ...

Re: Forum challenge: Buy Nothing Year

I'm jumping in here too (as well as the minimalism game).
Background: Traumatic and painful things happening one after another, emotional spending for both highs and lows, and because of boredom / procrastinating.
Paid off my CC last fall and have been contemplating on a no-buy or low-buy year. My ...

Re: Forum challenge: Lets play the minimalists' game

How did I miss this challenge!?

I've been decluttering since January when we decided that we would move. And we are moving tomorrow.
I had a two week flea market table set-up, and sold some stuff on an internet platform. I just counted and I sold 144 items total, and I probably donated and threw ...

Re: Veronica's Journal of Madness

Sounds good! I've been on a decluttering kick because we are moving soon, so have not even wanted to buy ANYTHING extra :D But I'm attending a wedding in June and will buy a dress for it this month or in April. I don't own a single fancier dress, even though I could get away with wearing one of my ...

Re: Fly baby, fly!

You are right. I should set a hard limit on what I'm willing -able- to spend on rent. Luckily we are not in a hurry to find a new home in the city, because of our current living situation. I think 1200 should be the absolute upper limit if I can't find anything cheaper, but I will aim for 1000 e. I ...

Re: Rouva's second journal

Oh, that's unfortunate that she is retiring :/ It's completely different to talk to someone who knows you and your story..

I should quit complex carbs, they are so bad for my Crohn's disease. Side benefit is that always loose some weight when I cut out bread, pasta, rice, candy etc. I can still eat ...

Thanks delay :)
Rouva- thanks for asking :) Yeah, I don't think I'm going to get super into the classics, but probably will read some of the ones that DD and her dad like and recommend, or at least give them a chance. DD didn't like Anna Karenina for example, the subject matter didn't interest her ...

Re: Fly baby, fly!

End of year re-cap!

It was truly sucky year (again).

Good things that have happened is DD's high school has started off well, and I have grown closer to her dad (mostly due to this other sh*t happening.. he has been there for me.)
Good thing financially from last year was that I paid off my CC ...
