Re: ffj's Early Retirement (round 2)

I grew up in a German speaking country and I’ve never heard that expression about feeling visited enough. Maybe a northern German expression, they’d have sayings I’m not familiar with.

Great update and photos!

5. I’m not a people manager now and I don’t think I’d be a good one, honestly. I can’t imagine adding cultural-based differences in how to manage layered on top of that. You write above that not taking this opportunity would preclude you from a promotion and may not allow you to get to this higher ...

Re: Llorona's Log, Take II

That’s sad to hear that your area has gone downhill that quickly, it does sound disconcerting.

Do you have any idea why it would deteriorate that quickly, apart from a lack of policing? From afar I would have thought that at least the high property prices would keep a fair bit of crime out.

Brief announcement: baby is here. Congratz! Glad you and the baby are well. My two cents regarding the points you raised: - Breastfeeding got easier for my wife at about 6 weeks. They had similar issues with latching. By then she and the baby knew what they were doing. Also, the baby’s mouth grew l...

The FED wants a long expansion not to pop the bubble by raising rates. All-time highs here we come!
To me, in the current environment price stability and low rates are mutually exclusive. I suppose we’ll see what the FED values more.

Seems like money should not be a factor in your decision on whether to undergo therapy or not, your financial buffer is quite large.

Ubuntu still requires ongoing updates, apart from the large Biannual ones. I estimate ongoing updates (which you can delay for later if need be) to consume about 300 MB/month.

Further to whitebelt’s post, that’s already a reality in Brazil:

As a result the central bank restricted transactions in certain timeframes.

Part of the ‘problem’ the in-laws may be perceiving is your potential inability to provide for yourself/your wife. So I second what Jacob mentioned, to project financial resourcefulness. This may also help with your choice not to seek status via stuff. If the in-laws realise it’s your choice and not...

Interesting insight, thanks for sharing! All those transitions and upheaval - while being outsized opportunities for losing money - probably present great upsides too. I hope it works out for you in the end, keep those dull numbers coming :)

Great that you made a handsome profit on your bonus, congratulations.

Asset management companies can be worth it if they outperform your portfolio by at least what they charge you in fees. What is the going rate for asset management in Poland?

I second ertyu’s post. Speaking as a neurotypical person, I’ve got ups and downs too. When we get out of a harsh lockdown towards the end of last year, I just lost motivation for work, for no particular reason. Nov/Dec/Jan were just a write off. Productivity only at half of what it would normally be...

Sounds like you’re talking about geothermal energy. The main issue seem to be drilling costs: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geothermal_energy

Burning hydrocarbons is still more cost effective, I suppose.

Anything else? I’d suggest herbs. Easy to grow, expensive to purchase fresh. Leiermann’s hot 100: Coriander Basil Parsley (flat leaf and ‘shrivelled leaf’ if you’re into garnish. If not, stick with flat leaf for taste) Rosemary Thyme Mint Lemongrass Lavender Keep up the good work and keep posting p...

Keep us posted on how you go with your homesteading efforts, in particular growing mushrooms is something I’ve thought about for a while now.

Great job on keeping the Groceries at such a low level. It is quite ridiculous how expensive groceries are in Australia. DW and I spend multiples of that, but it’s also a conscious choice for us. I am always amazed at US levels of grocery spending.
