I got offered a great paying job recently, like what I make now, where you mainly just sit there and read four days a week because the volume of work passing through is so low.
I considered taking it, sounds like a dream job. But I wasn't big on the area. I'd feel a bit depressed if I just sat ...

What would you do if you had $3,000,000?
I imagine frugality is part of ERE’s core personality, not just something done out of necessity. I’m finding as I make increasing amount of money, some areas of frugality start making less sense or I stopped doing. I still consider myself frugal, but also I wonder sometimes parts of my personality ...

Always feel a content and maybe a bit bored.
I really don’t mind my job. It’s not the most interesting but it’s in healthcare so I’m doing a good thing and not just making someone else money. Not too stressful, not bad. Personal life I’m pretty happy with having learned to play piano and with my coding skills, pretty happy with my body and how ...

Re: Headphone recommendations
I bought a pair of Bose OE2 a decade ago on sale for like $60 and use them at work, have a pair of Bose AE2 I use at home I got a decade ago for a similar price. Just got a pair of “higher end” Sennheiser RS180 for $180ish for playing guitar and video games wirelessly and they sound quite a bit ...

Re: Having some issues deciding on whether or not to pursue a PhD.
Sure, but you are still going to want to finish your thesis, or else why take the job? Honestly it seems like he is offering to sell you the title of "PhD" for $100k/year. You could endow your own chair for this kind of money, over a comparable period to becoming a professor by employment, and ...

Re: Having some issues deciding on whether or not to pursue a PhD.
Probably depends on the week. I know during the first years of my MS my advisor was unreasonable and I worked 80h consistently, but sketched advisors then it stayed around 20-30h between research, writing, class, and stipend work.

Re: Having some issues deciding on whether or not to pursue a PhD.
So got offered a job that's 195k and only 40h a week (+1h unpaid lunch so 9h days), but with the drawback that it only has 10 days vacation + 10 holiday a year. I don't think that will allow me to feel free. Starting to think a lot of the better paying places I could get while still young in the ...

Re: Having some issues deciding on whether or not to pursue a PhD.
Thank you all, this is some great advice. CS’s last post hit me ——— even at 28 I’m feeling old and like I never really got to accomplish what I want to accomplish by 30. I also knew I didn’t particularly like my would-be career a few weeks into grad school. I’ve been thinking advice I would’ve given ...

What did the script do, if you don't mind saying?
Looked through the queue of ads to be posted and find keywords so I could find them 10-15 minute before they were posted. Would text me a title, price, and link to the ones with certain words under certain prices. Pretty nifty, classifieds were ...

Having some issues deciding on whether or not to pursue a PhD.
Background:
I am 28 with a MS in medical physics. Will likely retire or look for locums work around when I have 1Mil saved (because I'm cautious and make good money). Currently I make around 150k and expect than to increase to 170-200k if I make a job hop within the next 2-4 years (and likely also ...

Re: Income sources other than ‘normal jobs’
Back in college I got very good at buying and selling things locally on our classified ads. Had about 30k I worked with and could make about 10-15k a year just doing it casually. Just stuff I had experience in, cameras, pianos, video games, comics, dog houses, whatever I wanted to learn about. Wrote ...
