Path of travel has shifted east and now it looks like Sally will go over... Mom's house.
Unemployable, how is your mom? My friends in Baldwin County, AL are on day 5 without power but otherwise unscathed.

Re: New Orleans, Gulf Coast or Southeastern United States

Hurricane Laura's approach was much scarier and from friends who have family in Lake Charles, its still a mess there. Not enough news coverage, but that's not surprising. Most of the news I am getting about the impact for the Lake Charles area is from the Cajun Navy--good name to know if (when ...

Re: COVID grocery/shopping procedures

I've been happy to find one of the farmer's market vendors is doing a pop-up drive-thru for eggs, vegetables, fruit, and butter. Small town butcher shops (the ones with painted concrete floors) seem to still have meat and are not crowded. On FB there is also a local plant nursery making porch ...

@GTOO Do you have thistle? Looks like celery but tastes like cucumber. People consider it a weed and are happy to have you hack it down.

Re: COVID-19

"A breakdown of known coronavirus cases at the county level appears to show Orleans Parish — home to New Orleans — far outpacing other jurisdictions in COVID-19 rate per capita in the U.S."

Mardi Gras is a season, not just a single day event. I can't think of a better way to seed a city.

Re: COVID-19

@Jin+Guice I've heard the anxiety is showing in the grocery store, the man-of-the-house was in Kenner grocery shopping and people were eyeballing his cart to see if he had picked up something they wanted. No meat, no TP, and running low on booze.

 It sounds like you do know NOLA! And yes ...

Received emails from two different federal credit unions, one in Louisiana and one in Texas encouraging the use of online banking and alert members that there may be branch closures for a time. I wonder what that means for safety deposit box access?

Re: COVID-19

I'm seeing mixed reactions to this virus. Most people are annoyed by the inconvenience and point to statistics that more people die of other things than have died so far... The only people who seem concerned are people who do math for a living. I definitely think that normalcy bias and the ...

Re: Planning for Quarantine

I have a preschooler at home so I have made sure the TV antenna can pick up PBS kids at all times, stocked up on cheap supplies to make DIY sidewalk chalk, playdough, & bubble soap. I'm looking hard at a subscription to an online educational platform like ABC Mouse. Set up Skype for the grandparents ...
