Re: Obtaining a Second Passport

A side note, people from ibero america can obtain Spanish citizenship after 2 years of living in the country. I know of one case and a quick search gives e.g. this https://www.identitystrategist.com/latest-updates/one-way-to-get-spanish-citizenship in the comment section someone from Texas claimed t...

Re: Strategic fat accumulation

I wonder how much weight hunter gatherers put on in good times and lost in lean times. My guess is not very much compared to the strategic reserves most modern people seem to accumulate. Haha made me chuckle, but you are onto something in that the problem can be narrowed down. I am conducting a per...

Re: Courses to get a career in programming?

I am interested in this also because looking for a career change and studying Maths and Stats at the moment. @M it sounds pretty hard going, especially reading about going through 1000+ pp. books :) Actually @Viktor K I was hoping you would answer here, because I know from your journal that you made...

Re: PhD in Humanities / Social Sciences (please throw in upsides of doing it from ERE point of view)

Aha, after the input gotten here I now tend to agree with you @WFJ.

In my mind it is now a bit like getting an agent managing one's money for a fee vs one learning to manage money themselves. It is possible to piece together a 'PhD in Humanities' experience without the downsides.

Re: Strategic fat accumulation

@7w5 yes a bit what @Jean said about overweight people starving to death, this is pretty surprising for me to read! @Sclass this intuitively makes sense to me. Somehow what comes to my mind is this: if you try to largely detach your thinking from the social aspect of being skinny/ripped/overweight e...

In practice, it allows to plan hikes, without taking extra food in case i take more time than planed. I see what you mean with this. I wonder what's the variability of the psychological component of the act of eating or the psychological component of a food input to the stomach. When DW goes on a l...

Re: Strategic fat accumulation

Yes I read about cycles of bodybuilders. I see what you mean about taking fat off possibly being challenging, or this is definitely the mainstream vision of fat on body, that it is easy to put on and difficult to take off. I am thinking, in the same way people nowadays do family planning, hence harn...

Strategic fat accumulation

Anyone here ever thought about accumulating fat strategically? Maybe @theanimal when up in Alaska? I have a friend (well I know him, we used to study at the same uni and hang out occasionally) who does expeditions of the type of cycling across Baikal (north to south, so the long way), and from what ...

I have this book on my mind to read sometime. (which is why I found the community repair popup concept so interesting like 7W5 did) This bit brought to my mind a practice that I see in some communities like the one where I work (sadly not the one where I work), where getting and fixing broken tools ...

Re: Imagining multiple dimensions

I like the color plot analogy. You can have a three dimensional surface or volume that is colored at each location with 256 bit color and that gives our primitive minds a way to see four dimensions. A three dimensional heat map is a visualization of 4D. This is good in principle but for mildly colo...

Re: Imagining multiple dimensions

@7w5 I'll say it to myself the next time I am behind the steering wheel. @Sclass, I would bet that time coming to mind as the fourth dimension has to do with the Western tradition of thinking about time as past-present-future. I get what you mean with visualising 4 dimensions as a series of 3D volum...

Imagining multiple dimensions

What are your imaginative ways of thinking of multiple dimensions? One - line Two - plane Three - space Four - spaces along a line Five - spaces on a plane Six - spaces in a space Seven - spaces in spaces along a line Eight - parallel to five, and so on... When I try to imagine it, four can be a spa...

Monthly update On living arrangement I now have a housemate. He seems a peaceful 30-something introvert who is recovering from a breakup, perfect for me. Congrats, I was never a believer in marriage, but somehow got married and even if this is just such an arbitrary thing where one stands in front of a city council official / priest and says 'yes', it felt very good and was a memorable event indeed! You have many great projects going on, enjoy. How h...

This shows that one never knows the turns life throws at them! In my mind this is very much approaching ERE, and from the salary man point of departure i.e. first accumulate money and now you tackle other aspects of life. I am glad that you are set in the Finnish environment that makes it possible a...
