Re: Foraging Log

@WRC, it often is a good idea to look at the canopy and go where certain trees are. Deciduous and coniferous trees work with different species of mushrooms (edibles on both sides, though more easy to identify ones one the deciduous side), however there is a general consensus that sycamore (and by ex...

Re: Foraging Log

@WRC, nice! My preferred way to preserve fruit is to dry it, turns all the more tasty and lasts a very long time. But one needs a way to dry them, ideally in the sun. I use a dehydrator, its 300-350W and it costs me about 1,5-2USD to dry five trays over some 20h. For chanterelles: you want to look f...

Re: The Island Where People Forget to Die

I take it back, looked up and there aren't any helpx or workaway opportunities, so would need to first go with camping gear and just query people if they need any help in exchange for staying with them. This would likely work I think. I wouldn't like to just go there, rent a room and be holidaying. ...

Re: Foraging Log

Sure will do, it is more than half turned into the ink-like mess now. From where I get intelligence, I read that this needs to be diluted with a bit of water, and heated with some cloves which reportedly helps fix the ink and stop it from fading and running. DW might have a go with it to produce som...

Re: Foraging Log

Anyone fancy foraging for some creamy mushroomy goodness, or perhaps ink for a change? This morning I found these fellows: shaggy mane, or shaggy ink cap. Hard to mistake for anything else. There is also a mushroom called ink cap which is not recommended for eating, it is not shaggy like these ones ...

Re: Thinking

what @Ego said, and if there are distractions that are predictable they turn into white noise. Stream of consciousness type of thinking is very pleasurable for me, though it might have to do with having a good nurturing environment and a well set life; I could imagine another version of me ruminatin...

Re: Ego's Journal

Once I came to the conclusion that the subconscious mind is the place where decisions are actually made and the subconscious is not something I directly control, I began making a conscious (hah!) effort to influence it in the one way I can, by feeding it carefully. That's my first takeaway, glad yo...

I am yet to find Morels, I think they are not that common around here or perhaps just no luck, wonder how they taste. I found some False Morels which are poisonous and look like an ugly brother of the real ones. ________________________________________________________ Recently at work I was on a wal...

So, you're saying existential anxiety and ennui goes away with children? Man did my parents miss that memo. Sorry, I was searching the forum for 'Rudolf Steiner' and 'waldorf' and found @ertyu's post in your journal about finding meaning in life and your above response to it and gosh was it funny!

Some new finds (to me as well!) from yesterday's walk: Peppery boletes! First time ever I collected these. As the name implies, they are very much pepper-like. I dried them, going to powder and use like pepper (had a sniff as well, smell like mushrooms and also make me sneeze). https://i.ibb.co/1zsC...

Ah sorry! Somehow from reading parts of your journal I had it in my mind that the work on the condo has been done already. Sounds like you have a good plan in place for getting it habitable. Is it Bilbao? P.S. The cross on the bed looks rather spooky, but I would personally keep the bed frame, vinta...

I don't know, in some cuisines poppy seeds are used quite generously, for example this , this or this.

From our casual morrocan poppy seed potatoes experiment, I estimate we had about 2.3g of protein each from poppy seeds alone.

Re: Foraging Log

@WRC, you inspired me, I went for a hike through the moors and collected some, too; in the UK they go by 'bilberries'. DW and I stuffed our faces on the spot but also got some home, had them wrapped in pancakes, with raspberry jam and peanut butter / yogurt+heather honey, it was quite something. How...
