Re: New member checking in

right, in the case of financial system collapse, eg zombies eat wall street, being tightly coupled to money leaves one naked ... people can lose their job and their investments on the same day.

remember also during the pandemic there were things money couldn't buy. like.. toiler paper

Re: The Road Goes on Forever--Sometimes in Circles

haha no it doesn't get exhausting, it's fascinating, it's hugely illuminating, but also it's a story of real actual pain, so... i can take the stress, it doesn't destroy me, and i have empathy so i cannot / don't want to ignore. anyway... ok. thanks for the absolution.

Re: The Road Goes on Forever--Sometimes in Circles

yukio mishima was a war-dodging butch queen who just plain forgot to get out of drag. the whole thing was a performance. considering he killed himself at 45 under comical circumstances, i wouldn't consult him for health advice... quentin crisp on the other hand lived to age 90. he wrote, "healt...

@Alpha @white belt, I don't have experience hunting with slugs but that's how my father harvested dozens of deer growing up. I've ranged a friend's 410 with a slug barrel and had no issues grouping at 75 yds (I'm not a particularly great shot). My shoulder was not a fan though. I've heard mixed thi...

Re: Bullshit Ability as an Honest Signal of Intelligence

If deception is good enough then how is it any different than the truth? One answer is .. because it is the truth! .. or so we tell ourselves .. :? deception is good enough for social manipulation (evolutionary) but not for knowledge. still, if you think about it, most pseudoscience is generated by...

Re: White Belt's Military Journey to FI

The most ecologically and economically sound arrangement is to have a co-op house like you said. There are many of those in the city with 3-4 floors of living space and 7+ bedrooms. I'm not sure yet if I have the skills and/or patience to live with a bunch of punks/hippies, although I may feel bett...

Re: Personal Hygiene

i don't brush a ton, however i floss and rinse after every meal.

the tongue can do most of what the brush does... but the tongue can't floss.

also for rinsing there is no need for listerine etc. when you get oral surgery you're told to just rinse with saltwater. so why not.

DBT was also a good suggestion. She's been attending group DBT sessions, and I do think that's been helpful too - so thanks a lot for suggesting it, because CBT is definitely the 'standard' doctor's recommendation here (I did CBT myself last year and it was okay-but-not-fundamentally-life-changing)...

as a meat eater: my experience with canned meats is either sublime or vile: no in between. it's either french charcuterie (eg: rillettes de sanglier) or canned beef from walmart. jerky is always good though, takes little volume, i think the weight equivalence is 1:3. can be eaten as is or rehydrated...
