Re: Digital tools/hacks
This will be applicable to only Linux users. I've used Linux for probably over 10 years now and I use the following productivity stuff: taskwarrior is great and follows the GTD philosophy well tmux allows you do multiple things in a terminal at once sxhkd (simple X hotkey daemon) for keyboard shortc...

Re: What accounting software do you all use?
I use a small paper diary in which we keep our expenses. Who spend what and roughly on what category. Tallied and divided up every month. After 6 yrs of that (previously doing on a spreadsheet but mobile life makes the diary more convenient) the most useful part of it is the calculation and monitor...

What accounting software do you all use?
I meticuosly track every expense through plain text accounting using Beancount along with Fava for some nice graphics and stats at a glance. I know that kind of thing isn't for everyone. I've been fiddling with Linux for years out of necessity initially (I needed a cheap/free OS for my school laptop...

Re: DIY software development and/or electronics?
Not quiet sure I understand the question posed. How about contributing to some open source software? The question seems to be focused only on personal usefulness, I'm sure there's stuff out there that people already find useful that you could perhaps help improve on. You could also do a lot of stuff...

Re: Alternatives to Google News?
I agree with fingeek on stopping the consumption of news altogether, mostly for your own personal sanity. Most news has little personal effect on your life, it provides things to ponder and talking points with others, but that's about it 99% of the time. Pick a few high quality sources and read them...

Re: Mental health: The lost art of concentration
Mindfulness isn't just about "concentration" but can solve various issues, it's about slowing down and being present enough to make deliberate rather than mindless/automatic choices. It can help steer you away from not just bad choices, but bad habits. Other than that I think a quiet envir...

Re: How To Make Your Room Pitch Black
Do you do shift work? Are you getting up with the sun? I'm just wondering if your sleeping schedule is aligned with your natural circadian rhythm or not. I think melatonin production is triggered in part (in whole?) by light entering your eyes, a simple sleeping mask should work to block it. How dar...

Re: Green smoothies vs Coffee
Coffee is a diuretic, and I imagine at least some of the vitamins and minerals (water soluble ones at least) from your smoothie are being literally flushed down the toilet afterwards (through urination). I'm not sure if that's what she was thinking about, but it's what I'd be thinking about.
